Burned Rubber Smell Or Something - Maxima 2001

Hello,

I have a Maxima 2001 SE. When I'm driving up-hill (steep hills), I can make it to where I'm going, but, there is a rubber smell coming from underneath the car we all can smell when we exit the car. The hill doesn't even have to be that long, like, maybe a quarter of a mile. What is causing this? My belts look OK, but, I was thinking that it was the belts that were smelling burned. If you could point me to the proper post or page in the FSM, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.
