While troubleshooting a "starter clicking - not starting issue", I discovered my ACC relay socket (under the air box) was burned. Although the relay tested good, I replaced it anyway ( OEM 25230-C9980 = RY63T )and cleaned the socket contacts.
Any ideas what would cause this?

First thing that comes to mind is an aging/ failing ignition switch. Basically, starting to internally short. Do your accessories turn off when running the starter like they should? Or does like your stereo stay on and kind of flicker...

Ok, I'll buy that. The ignition switch failed about a year ago (a Sunday afternoon ).
The piece with the contacts was coming loose from the metal cylinder part and all bets are off on what was shorting or not.
WIth no chance to have a new switch that evening, took it apart, cleaned it, and reassembled it making sure it was not loose like before. No ignition issues since that evening.

I was hoping to find a replacement socket for the relay but the dealer claims "they come with the harness" !, so no-go there.

I'm pretty sure the stereo turns off when starting the car, but I'll check to make sure.

Thanks!

Pic N Pull is having a half price sale this holiday weekend. Grabbing a used relay socket might be easy/ cheap/ quick. Maybe the same for the ignition switch (the part that goes behind the key tumbler). I think any Nissan of similar era might have similar components for the taking. Anyway, mine is just a guess with the first thing that comes to mind. Check out the accessories being on or off during startup. Good luck!

The accessories do turn off when trying to starting the car.
So for now I'll file it under "no idea when it happened but it all works now" :)

Gremlins. My fingers are crossed for you. Be sure not to feed the car after midnight!

Many times now the relay sockets are simply underdesigned to the power that goes to them, a/c being one that has issues on more than one line of cars.

A new relay will not touch a melting relay socket, you may well have to cut the pertinent wires out to make your own contacts if later needed, I've done it on countless cars before. If the relay contacts can be gotten to to rebend them tighter that will likely help, they relax with heat to make the contact less then things begin to melt.

where can you get these relay sockets from? my EGI pump looks a little crispy and now im betting thats why my fuel pump wont work.

Your issue is that the connectors have gotten hot. Replace the EGI pump relay, clean up the contact surface of the connectors, and put some dielectric grease on them (make sure it's a wiping of grease. Loading up on the grease interferes with the operation of the mating surface). Make sure the female connectors have a tight interface to the relay.

yea i kinda destroyed the old one and found out it couldnt go bad, i just plugged them directly into the relay now but i gotta figure out why the ECU isnt telling the fuel pump to turn on, i have 2 ecus and its not working on either one.
