burn muffler tip.

this may sound like a dumb question but ima go at it anyways.

i wanna put a look on my ebay muffler, and i wanna make it look like how those burned tip looks like on those other mufflers, and my question is is there a way of doing this? should i ask a body shop to get it done custom or can i do it myself??? Any help would be appreciated..

It's been a LOOOONG time since I've studied metallurgy, but if I remember, that's what it looks like when you don't clean up or polish steel after you've tempered it.

THEORETICALLY you can give that look to any steel by super-heating it and then dousing it with cold water until it's cooled. In reality, there's not likely any way you can do this with materials you have on hand without either damaging the muffler, "burning" parts you don't want to burn, or some other mishap. Try to find a muffler that already has this look that will actually fit your V.

darn, i thought this look would kinda make the v look nice in a way.i got the idea when i saw a sti on the way home from work and i realized it had a burned tip so then i started thinking,but ill talk to the shop im gonna go to anyways see what they can do it with...but thanks evervictorius!

besides, wont it rust after heating because all the finish would be burnt off?

Agreed. The burnt look you see is on titanium tips a lot. But I don't think it's a genuine burn... Like EV said, Steel will do that, but it isn't that pronounced, I don't believe.
