So.. i just got a 1995 240sx just a couple of days ago and i've been driving around and noticed the my gas i getting sucked down. The car seems to be running too rich you can smell it in the air out side of the car a little while idling or reving it up a little. i tried to get it inspeced and the hydro carbon percentage was too high and so was the [NO] percentage. ive changed the oxygen sensor, spark plugs and i bought the EGR valve but havent put it in yet. But does anyone know why else i might be burning gas too fast or what might help to improve my gas milage and help me pass emissions for inspection.

I would replace the injector o-rings and look for any vacuum leaks. Run seafoam through your intake system, that will give you some power back too which is a plus. Also make sure your tire pressure and tire wear are where they should be. Remove the spare tire also and any other unneeded weight out.

Just me $0.02

im assuming you have a stock side fed fuel rail for this test...if not..wire injectors to your rail...do this easy test..step by step..

#1.....unbolt rail and remove it from the intake manifold.donot remove the fuel lines from the rail#2. ....lay back of prop up the rail so the bottom of the injectors is facing away as much as possible from the manifold..and so you can see them easly..#3. remove the coil wire that goes to the dizzy (for safty)#4. turn your key in the car to the on position ( do not crank the car over)#5. inspect injectors to see if there leaking at this point...if they are..its your O-rings.#6. ...if the injectors did not leak..then have a buddy crank the car over and look at how much fuel is spraying out..it should be a fine mist..if its squirting out noticbly more than say onother injector..then you have a bad one in the batch...

thats the fast test in a nut shell....this test was made for limited to no specialty equipment and can be used in most cars where access to the fuel rail is availible...good luck

if your orings are bad thrn yes you will run rich. Think about it, the amount of gas is calculated, so if its leaking then more gas is getting inside than what the ecu thought. My car smelled really rich in the morning but after the car warmed up it went away. I changed my o-rings and the smell went away and my gas milage also got a little better. But you should do what liquid said since it is a good way to test.

Do you smell fuel when you exit the car after driving it?

If nothing is leaking, could be a bad O2 sensor.

look in the FSM and find the idle mixture/timing adjustment procedure. make sure the mixture is right and your base timing is right. start there first. then do the fuel control test to see if your ecu is even controling the fuel. then theres the regular tune up items.can you post up all your gasses? so far its sounding like a lean miss
