I am planning to go bungy jumping tomorrow, but am not good with heights...

Here's the place
http://cairns.ajhackett.com/products/index.html

Anyone else done it before?
Know of anything to help settle the nerves? (except beer, shooters, etc)

I am hoping to get through it so I can ride a BMX off the top platform.... :ohno:

EDIT: Now with video!

First jump, dislocated my shoulder.

Second jump, SUPERMAN!

I've been both bungy jumping and skydiving. I got a bigger rush from bungy jumping than skydiving, the reason for that is because when you bungy jump you see the ground very clearly. However, when you're 13,000 feet up in the air it looks like you're just jumping into a big green/yellow grid that's far away.

You'll get nervous when you're standing on the edge ready to go. I would have the instructor count to three and just sort of help you (nudge you) out. You just have to commit to it and do it. The dissapointing thing about bungy jumping is that it's over so quick. It seems like a fraction of a second and it's already over.

Being nervous is part of the experience, just go out there and enjoy yourself.

I'll see what I can do.

Pissing myself won't be a problem, I'm more nervous about doing this!

I did one of those amusement park ones where it's a tower with a bag underneath.
Well, getting myself to jump was fine...but once I hit freefall all I could do was hug the padded line for dear life. I did not enjoy myself but hey...at least I can say I did it.
I don't see how you could s*** yourself doing that...I was as far from relaxed as humanly possible.

I bridge jump into water every summer. Not nearly as high as bungy jumping but the first jump of the year always gets my nerves going. Just do it and don't think about it.

I have watched this. Cool stuff. Semi related.

Here's the pics!

Takeoff!
Image

Gut-wrenching drop
Image

Dunked into the water, to my waist
Image

Retrieval by boat (had to be careful, because I dislocated my shoulder from the drop)
Image

I decided that superman would do it, dislocated shoulder and all (so I jumped again)
Image

Faster than a speeding bullet.....
Image

Able to leap (off) tall buildings in a single bound.....
Image

....... It's SUPERMAN!!!
Image

If I hadn't popped my shoulder (AGAIN!), I would have done it all day....
It doesn't get any easier the second time either, but glad I did something to conquer a fear of mine.

Video to follow, once I get home and rip the dvd to another format, and upload it to youtube (I don't have the software on my laptop to do it)

Awesome down under photo-op. And good stuff Andy, that looks intense. I've been wanting sky dive lately.

Bump..... videos added!

Dan, I would find it easier to skydive, because you would be so far up, that it would seem like you have more time to react, and soak it all in..... When you bungy, you can see the pattern on the pool edge, while you are flying head first at it... :ohno:

In saying that, it's probably the next item on the agenda for me (provided my shoulder will hold up on a dive!)

I definitely want to bungy again!

DUDE!!! Holy crap! I bungeed at the exact came place back in 1999 when I went down there with the Navy. Prices were a little cheaper if I remember right.

I was scared s&!tless, and the guy up there says to me, "I'll count to three then you'll jump." I said, Ok.

He starts, "One, two." Next thing I know his hand shoves me off the platform. Wasn't hard, but enough to get my momentum working against me...lol.

When I was falling, I couldn't hear ANYTHING. It's like sound just escaped my body. Wasn't till I hit the water that reality came back to me.

Would I do it again...probably not now. 10 years ago...HELL YES!!!

You and I are about the same age.... If I can do it, surely you can!
To jump all day is about $270, which isn't too bad I guess, and the in house bar is pretty cheap.

When I am in the US in May, I want to do this...
