Alright so we've all talked about KA24DE-T and how it compares to SRs/CAs or not....but what if you were comparing the KA24E-T and the CA18DET, which one would actually be a better/cheaper setup with good HP results? Just curious.. cuz that's where i stand right now.. boosted ka24e or ca18det project, and it seems so far that cost will come to just about the same. In your answer, please consider costs of getting parts and if you lean one way back-it up with arguments as to why. We can talk about ease of installation and parts availability a bit later.. or tag it on to your choice Help!!!

ps: I know i posted the same question in some KA thread, but I figured I'd get better results maybe in here??

Ka24E-T. I dont not much about a ca18det but with the ka24e the engine is already in the car so basically bolt on the turbo and all the other fun goodies. even if your talking building either motor the ka has a bigger displacment which some see as better. I myself im doing ka24E-T

Alright.. so far more KA24E-T fans than CA18DETs :P

So how much WHP can be obtained from a 'bolt-on' setup without touching the internals?I'm talking SR 370cc, Z32 MAF, re-mapped ecu and something like the boostdesigns stage1 kit? Anyone?

you can't use sr injectors on a single cam the are different type sr has side feed injectors while the ka24E has top feed. but if you had a ka24de it would be a different story but it isnt. I think most people use rx-7 injectors on their single cams. and with a basic build with little or no internal work done i'd say 300 hp safely but im not sure.

KA24DE's and E's seem to respond to the initial 8 or so psi about the same. Plus it will be cheaper to replace the KA24E if you get boost happy and blow your motor.

The basic setup with 8 psi and a good intercooler, on top of your list, should easily put you around a reliable 250 horsepower to the wheels. Maybe a tad closer to 300 with good tuning. To put that into perspective the last generation of GT Mustang put down 250 in a package much heavier than a 240sx. That should be enough power to keep you happy until your suspension catches up.

I definitely had a brain fart on the injectors.. topfeed not sidefeed, sorry about that, I was just reading a lot of stuff on the DE. Wow.. 250hp out of a SOHC?I am currently working on a live-tuning version of a software made for hondas. Since I believe the ka24e runs of similar chips, I will be able to do some 'adequate' tuning.

So overall this is a $2k budget or so.. I might have to do some shopping around and get parts by parts..

i'd go ka becuase if your motor ever blows you have the parts to start a new projectjust my $0.02
