I need to protect my bumper somehow. Unfortunately, in NYC, you parallel park ALOT! and my rear bumper is taking a beating. It has under 1k miles on it and I already had to pay a $200 charge to fix a huge scratch on my bumper on the 2nd week of owning the car. Now I have about 20 nicks and scratches along the rear bumper.

Does anyone know of anything that can protect my bumper? Anything I can buy to maybe minimize the scratches?

I know this is a smart assed answer....but perhaps learning HOW to parallel park will cut down on those?

That doesn't protect you from the drivers of other cars.

You can get "clearbra" type applications for bumpers that help minimize scratches and nicks. I doubt that would help against anything more severe, though. You may be able to find some modern equivalent of 80s push bumpers; perhaps a rubber cover similar to the protector for the top of the rear bumper for hatchbacks.

Yeah, the 3M clear bra is pretty good stuff. The only other thing is the leather bra's. I've heard that bumpers get killed in NYC. People park by bumping the other cars.. Good luck.

If its about other ppl scratching your bumper, than tape a sandpaper (scratchy surface outside) on your bumper. Many ppl would try to avoid a contact with your bumper =D

I too live in NYC and check my bumpers every morning, luckily in my area of Queens iparking is not super tight and my bumpers are undamaged-going on 2 months (knock on wood). However I am getting nicks on my nose I guess from pebble strikes. Anyway, for the bumper, there is something called bumper bully that looks good. It doesnt protect your sides though and those seem to get rubbed up against alot due to people parking in tight areas. Disregard that guys comments about learning how to park, people from outside NYC dont get how tight parking could be.
