Hey I'm going to send my car into a shop to get some stuff fab'd for my GTR intercooler... should I asked them to just chop up my bumper support so that the intercooler could fit or should I not run one at all?

Its not a bumper support... it IS your bumper. You git it the front will collapse and crush your motor. But hell i cut mine up to mount my intercooler so i say go ape **** with the thing.

I cut mine just to make room for the FMIC. I left the corner pieces. I did this to my S13 and S14.

Alot of people just get rid of the whole thing or cut it in the center to fit their intercooler. On my S14, I had to keep the support because my front bumper rests on it. It was a bit hard to make everything fit and it still doesnt fit quite well (need to hack at the bumper due to the intercooler piping) but I think it's possible.

Thats exactly how mine is. The top and some of the front is still left and the intercooler was just tucked up in there.

yeah I cut the back of mine as well. I suggest cutting it, b/c if you just throw it away then you can make a safe bet that your engine will be ruined in a front end collision.

I just took a grinder and cut up on both sides, and then across the front about a 1/2" from the top. Its not really hard but a sawzall or cutoff wheel should do the trick.

If you have a 13 and want a silvia front end you'll need the bumper suppoart. On a 13 with a stock front you can remove it... I would recomend cutting it though. (That's what i did) Every little bit of rigidity is a bonus.

dude does it matter how old the thread is? it can still be useful and i think it better to bring a thread back than start a new one and get effin screamed at b/c i didn't search . either stay on topic or don't bother to post its just a waste of time

I stayed on topic, thanks tough guy... And was it necessary to bump it because you failed to search for pictures of this? You know what you need to do, no one is going to hold your hand cupcake. This topic has been covered multiple times... Cheers

Wow, this is a super old thread. When this thread was made, I just got my S13!

Installed my Greddy intercooler a few months ago:

All you need to do is install the FMIC and bring the support into place and see how much you need to take off. Just be really mindful of the fact that taking material away will reduce it's strenght, but it's better than nothing.

I used a sawzall and an angle grinder to smooth it out, followed by a large file so there were no burrs. Came out really nice.

When I was finished, I went over the edges with clear coat to make sure no rust forms.

yeah it has to be better than nothing even if it gets cut and is weakened. all i can see is when i get my sr in the car take her out on her virginal journey and WHAM! some ******* hits me head on and i don't have that bumper in there it would be a cryin shame so

BUMPERS FOR THE WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!

hahah, funny, I'm in the process of cutting my bumper. Today I took it out and was trying to measure where to cut. A grinder is a must for the S14 bumper because it's not totally hollow and the sawzall will hit the internal reinforcements and kick back like a mule!

Thoughtful_one, that's one clean job man.

so what did you do just gut it of its small supports inside in order to make it fit?

I didnt need to, what small supports?

mine slid right behind the support without any cutting whatsoever.its a standard CXracing/Ebay core. 24" x 12" x 3"

The piping is from the Blitz front mount kit.

Unless my support was missing something.... but I don't think so my install was as standard as everyone else's.
