first off, i dont want to scare away people that can help me by them seeing all of this info on one post. I just wanted to be as comprehensive as possible so that we dont have to post back and forth about questions.

:help

alright, some of you may remember my thread about my issues with my bumper, which can be found here . I thought that i had only chipped the paint, but i went to three paint/body shops today and found out that my bumper has apparently been misaligned and according to their estimates they printed out, here's what i'll require:

Wilburn Auto Body

Cover Assy - $307.60Cover Molding - $57.42Flex Additives - $15.00Hazardous Waste Disopsal - $10.00

Comes out to $390.02, then add in the tax and the labor charges, and...

Grand Total: $783.40

Pretty harsh considering i thought it would be between 150 and 225 for the paint. Here is shop #2.

Lake Norman Paint & Body

Front Bumper Cover - $307.60Front Bumper Molding - $57.42Front Bumper Absorber Reinforcement - $62.23Front Bumper Reinforcement - $174.28Flex Additive - $10.00Mask for Overspray - $5.00Paint/Materials - $68.20Hazardous Waste Disposal - $5.00

Stuff they didnt list a price for:FRT COVER ASSYFRT BUMPER COVER (its on there twice, once with a price once with a "Included in Clear Coat Calc"CLEAR COAT

thats a subtotal of 646.64 including sales tax, which is $250.00 more than Wilburn.

add in their labor and service charges, and...

Grand Total: $983.96

Time for the third and final place i went today.

True2Form Collision Repair Center

Cover Assy - $307.60Cover Molding - $57.42Energy Absorber - $62.23

+ Labor and Service Charges

Grand Total: 790.36

So, what i'm asking you fine fellow NICO members, is what you think of this. Should i try somewhere else to get this done, and based on your experiences, is this fair?

I know some of you work at body shops and dealerships, and i know somebody here has to have had something like this done.

Any help is appreciated, and i'll get pics up really soon hopefully, i just have to find our digital camera.

Thanks,Nick

Misaligned? Does that really require a NEW bumper cover? Why the hell are the other shops charging you for a Front Bumper Absorber Reinforcement? Is the bumper intact?

I got mine refinished (fixed all the pits/scratches/scrapes) for $200. Matches perfectly.

i dont know, i didnt hit it that hard when it happened. Basically, there is a small dent where the paint started coming off, and the bumper is a bit lower than the bottom of the grill. But i tried to go to the infiniti dealer and they told me i should go to Arnold Palmer cadillac which is a good ways away from me.

I had my bumper s painted, by a low-budget place, for $175.00 each. They did a great job, until I realized they put too much hardener in the paint, and it flaked off, like crazy. I took it back, and they repainted it, and clear-coated it. Now, the silver is a little off, but the paint has stayed on, just fine.

I suggest to make the decision, based on the value of the car (to you), and whether you plan on putting it in a car show. I opted for the cheap paintjob, because I'm cheap, and most people see my car pass them. There are enough dents and scratches in the car, that I couldn't justify the cost.

Try calling a few other dealerships (Nissan, Toyota, GM) to see where they recommend to get it painted. My Infiniti parts guy gave me a name of a guy that paints at his home.

The car really looks good.

thanks.

AZhitman, i don't think there's anything majorly wrong with the bumper, but as i said, i should have pictures tomorrow so you guys can see the extent of it. Does anyone know much about bumper repair and if just the front is dented, and i dont want to replace the bumper, could i just get it repainted without getting a new one?

Mine had a hole as well as a "rash" where the plastic was ground down (like a cheese grater got it). Plastic can be reformed if it's not too bad, but if it's deformed and has been for a while, it may be more cost-effective to replace. But the supports underneath should still be OK - They're just foam blocks and egg-crate plastic.

Pics will help.

If you can't see enough from those, let me know. I had to stop taking pictures because its raining heavily and the light in my garage is out.

By the way, i'm getting it fixed and it helps that a relative works in the service dept. at Arnold Palmer Cadillac, where Infiniti of Charlotte referred me to, but i'd still like to see what you guys think. I think i do need a new bumper but i got a much cheaper price at the Caddy dealership.

Well, it's hard to tell from the pics but I definitely think that damage is repairable by a guy who's good with plastic.

She's a pretty one - Can't wait to see it all done!
