Hey guys,

So I'm looking to purchase the Bullydog (Power pup or Triple GT) and need a few suggestions.. *I have done a search on reviews for this product but the threads have gotten so big that they are incomprehensible. I wasn't able to make a decision*

1) Whats the difference between Power pup and the Triple GT? Which one is "better"? Im leaning more to the GT.

2) I'm looking for a higher redline, removal of the speed limit, removal of the throttle output cut off point and whatever else will affect my cars performance.

My questions are.. And I only want answers from owners (unbiased ones if possible..)
1) DOES THE THING ACTUALLY WORK!? (does it increse the stock redline, does it remove the speed limiter/ give throttle control)
2) Does it add horsepower? (I don't see how this thing can increase the cars HP by 20WHP while saving more gas.. that just doesnt flow in my head)
3) Drop in your own review!

And thats it. BTW, These questions are more targeted for owners with 3.5 manual A/Cs.

Thanks!

First off, do you have the CVT? If so, no it will not remove redline. Although I selected a higher redline through the GT setup, my coupe still shifts at about 6400rpm. When I called BD about it they told me that they were aware of the issue and that there is a "higher level" of programming that the BD tuner can not over ride. Aside from that, I have mine set on a premium tune with a +4 degree advance timing and my butt dyno can feel a difference. When I punch it from a roll, there's a slight hesitation but it only lasts for a split second. When I hit 3K, the VQ screams! :chuckle: Keep in mind that I'm also running racingline Y-pipe and a SS full cat-back exhaust as well as the lightweight pulley. The BD Tuner enhances all of those. By how much, I don't know. I don't think anyone on here ever posted a baseline and BD tuner with no mods...at least not to my knowledge.

I have the Triple GT and I must say it is one of the best mods you can do for the Altima Coupe, I have a CVT and was not able to raise the rev limiter, however, that said I have it at primium tune with +2 timing.

Before the tuner my friends G35 with exhaust, intake, hfcs beat me by about half a car by 80mph but now I pull on him by about half a car to 80mph. So yes its deffinately worth it. Keep in mind I also do have rl y-pipe, Fujita intake, stillen pulley, and Ebay $180 exhaust. Out of all my mods I noticed the different with the bullydog the most.

I was thinkin about getting the power pup in the near future, dont need the gauges that the Gt has...

anyways it seems that most people that have this have the CVT, and I am also interested to know if the rev-limit removal works on MT.

I didnt find it to be too user friendly, and i didnt want to have to fool with it... the benefits arent great enough for me to hook it to the car... its for sale tho

So no one has tried this for the 6MT? I'm dying to know if It'll let me rev up past 6500...
So BD still says theyre working on a new program to raise the CVT redline?

Also, do you have to download the latest codes in order to get the product to work ? Or is it straight plug and play from the box?

I do believe that the only difference between the PowerPup and the GT is the fact that the GT has a nice little screen that you can use to monitor various aspects of your car.

I got the GT right when it came out and I love it.
I have a 2.5 CVT with the premium tune and +2 advanced timing. I also have the Nismo catback exhaust.
My butt dyno definitely feels the difference between stock and the tune with +2 timing.
For me, installation of the bullydog tuner was basically plug and play. I just followed the instructions and everything went well. I do believe that the people that had problems where the 3.5 people. Though there has been some code updates to the tuner and I do believe it has solved most of the issues. If the tuner were to not work for you, all you have to do is contact Bullydog and then I do believe that they have you get a dump of your cars ecu or whatever it is and email it to them.

As for the red line limit for the CVT, I do not believe the Bullydog tuner will ever be able to change it. As stated above, it is written somewhere that the tuner has no ability to actually modify it. I believe that somebody in the original Bullydog thread asked the people at Bullydog about it and told them that they would not be able to change the limit on the CVT.

what about "up rev" or "rev up" or what ever? that company that said they tuned a Versa with CVT and that they can do some stuff to it. has anyone actually tried their product? and with the bully dog tuners, has anyone with CVT tried to go for top speed runs yet? I know mine gets a tiny bit slower right before 100 but still pulls decent. once you hit 120 MPH the thing takes forever to go any faster.

see ur title is pointless bc i dont have the damn thing n i can answer this s*** i mean come on bro people know there s*** that have been here and seen/heard people talk/review this. And y do u have 5 ?'s yet u have 2 sets lol

1.1 Triple GT is deff better ive seen surmans in person and it has alot more features and from what he said it makes a diff even in the feel of the car not just by oh i added this or that

2.1 buy the gt tuner does all of that but supposobly it never takes the throttle output to 100%

1.2 yes and yes and no "supposobly"

2.2 it doesnt add hp it remaps ur ecu as a reflash so that ur car uses its mods to there full capacity by changing all the extra things ur adding more top end/low end top by taking the speedo and raising it low by increasing ur redline=higher shift points = more power usually....it just adds stress on ur engine thats y its a reflash so u can retune it on command. Like if its ur dd i wouldnt keep ur "race" settings on all the time have it on when u want it to go fast but hell ide keep it all the time i like more power :mike

3 I think the product is worth it especially if u have a 2.5 and/or a 3.5 cvt bc the 3.5 mt has a higher top speed than the cvt so if u have the cvt its worth it to just have the higher top speed but thats just me.

hows that for someone who doesnt own it lol :woot:

MATT NO - you dont own it you arent welcome here.

Technically i dont own it, but i did for 3 months. I was very pleased with unit. The customer service and installation in the beginning was a nightmare. But after that all got solved it was worth it.

I didnt mess with the speed limiter but iirc i was able to raise the rev limiter and go over the stock setting.

2.5 here - i had the stillen header/KN intake - i then installed the bd tuner. i felt most of my gains in the mid to high range. Very nice improvement. The throttle response increase and the car reved quicker. Which overall raised the acceleration.

With all that being said, Uprev is now available and is more bang for your buck. Id say get a full tune.

I checked Uprev but the bullydog looks more useful as it can be changed back and forth almost instantly. But again, it looks like there are mixed reviews so i'm gunna pull the trigger and purchase the bullydog. Hope it all works out!

Okie dokie SOOOOOOOO...

Mehdi sent me his Bullydog GT tuner and honestly, i can clearly say i LOVE it.
Thank you again Mehdi!!!!!!!!!!

i have a 2.5 6spd. nuf said there. heres a walkthrough.

connection was mad easy. u connect the obd2 connector, line the power line to the 15w fuse, and press on w/o the clutch (or brake) and then 'install' the car loads all its info, including the VIN haha

do a couple internet updates bak in the house,

come back out and re-install the update.

takes about 3 mins to download a copy of the stock ecu,

takes another 3 mins to rewrite and install a new option with either a "stock" reflash of the ecu, a "regular" tune, and a "premium" tune (only for use w/ 93 octane +)

you then have the option before it finalizes to raise your idle RPM (+100 @ 760rpm), WOT, Rev Limiter (thank god, +300rpm here) and governor, (i rose mine from 113 to 160, have yet to go that fast tho lol if ever)

re-initializes......

bam- installed w/ a tune. you can edit preferences and gauges, 4 at a time. i do (from top to bottom) MPH/RPM/Gas economy/IPC - throttle position

you have other options such as intake temp, direct oil temp, trans temp, A/F ratio, MAF, pyro 1 and 2 (with another BD addon) and a few others

when im cruising for MPG's i watch the economy page like a hawk. the tuner tells u wen to shift and ur INSTANT mpg along w/ a saved preference of ur overall, and it tells u how efficient of a driver u are. (LOL) from Epic Fail all the way to Excellent F - A+

for the 6spd info- YES it raises the rev limiter. the car sounds more punchy past 6200rpm too btw- like- it grew another testicle or went on hormone pills lol

at carlisle, i was askin darryl and surman all about the settings and info they put this thing on, and from a 2.5 perspective- its everything i coulda asked for.

after even a regular tune, you gain a couple horsies (its all in the manual, yes - i read it lol) approx 8-12hp but the car feels so much smoother overall. I'm in the process of emptying my fuel tank and gna do 2 tankfuls of premium till i set the premium tune however. which the manual states cranks out approx 22hp. where it finds it i have no idea lol- but w/e

i adjusted my timing to +5, it goes to like +10 < 0 > -10 with the minuses retarding ur engine timing. and after that- my butt dyno said the same thing- from 40-70mph - whoa- theres a few times where i'd stay in 4th gear and be at 40 and then be at 60 the next second i looked down, its just so smooth u cant tell the car is still going lol. no clutch bob or bottoming in higher gears (as much, but noticable)

theres a diagnostic page as well, so if ur CEL or SES light comes on, u can identify the trouble code right then and there and even 'erase' the code for a while if its nothing u really wanna kno about lol, but it wont permanantly DELETE the code either, so expect it to come bak soon after.

and YES- you can uninstall the tune and put ur car back to stock whenever you wish. if you touched the rev limiter or adjusted the idle rpm, the dealership WILL recode that back to the 650 stock rpm and the 6200 (or 65 sumthin for the 3.5) because it sets a red flag on their pickup. both are things they look for when doing a yearly inspection. dont believe me? check the ACM for the diagnostic test they run (w/ a simple search; altima control module/manual)

anywho- yes- this thing is pretty fly and i would deff get one. i lucked out because Mehdi is like, super awesome, but do NOT get the waste of time power pup, and get the more user friendly and agile BD GT.

I was doin research online for the past few months, finding other stuff from other people such as danny and darryl and surman, and im one of few ppl tht are probly using it to most of its capacity lol

if there is anything i didnt cover or if you need an answer about, dnt hesitate to gimme a pm or just post again lol :)
