Whats up guys....

So I have noticed that when I race my car smells like its burning.
I have the bully dog gt at +1 timing, idle 150rpms, and high acceleration setting.

I have notices that when I get to around 90mph I am still in 4th and hovering around 5500rpms. It seams like my car doesnt want to shift into 5th. After that my car smells like something is burning......

Im no genius :chuckle: but Im pretty sure something is wrong. Any suggestions?
For those of you that dont know I have CVT 3.5 Injen intake, Y-pipe and catback exhaust.

Go into the BD display and select Engine Settings, under that, there should be a folder with a file called smoke.sys.

Delete that. :yesnod

don't quote me on this but I think it has something to do with the tune + ypipe (one less cat)

If you've been running your car hard and have more than 36,000 miles on it, it sounds more like the need for a CVT fluid change since you're talking about delay going into 5th in manual mode. Otherwise I'd be inclined to go with oil change. It screams transmission to me.

This is typical though, it could be an exhaust leak, but I tend to agree with the transmission idea. It's hard to say. Would have to smell it.

So do the following:

1. Drive car really hard.
2. Get a jar, capture the smell in it.
3. Send to Canada.

We have state of the art smell testing techniques. I will be able to tell you what the burning smell is.

:)

ah yes..... hold off on the fluid change David... it could very well be a small exhuast leak (check the flanges around the the y-pipe at the front)

The random suspesion noises are serious!!!!!!!! I just crank up the volume and keep rolling. But the burning is a differnt matter I dont want to blow my cvt.

Do you think they could tie my cvt blowing to the bully dog gt????

They could try but they would have to "prove" it if you wanted to fight them on it. Honestly, they have a better chance of winning in that case because the BullyDog GT changes the car tune, giving it "moar POWA". Anything over stock, the trans is not meant for is what they could say.

But honestly, the BD GT is not like slapping a turbo or a supercharger on the motor and hoping for the best. Pretty much the same power as the stock tune, slight increase, but nothing to cause the hadron collider from stopping... wait, didn't a piece of bread f*** it up!?

In short, no. What CAN kill it though is stressing it (IE: Racing). If it's seeing high loads for extended or repeated periods of times, yeah it;s going to break like anything else.

Not sure how the BD tuner works, but what I'd do if I could is return it to stock settings and unplug the SOB from the car before going to the dealer. Then they'd really have to dig to see that you modified ECU settings (cause they will use that to void whatever warranty on whatever repairs... guaranteed). Good luck man!

Just reset it to stock and unplug the BD tuner. They won't know any better.

Do you experience any loss in power, feel anything unusual or hear any weird noises?

No noises, or lose of power just the smell. Im also thinking it could be cause its cold out and I generally have the heat cranked up so maybe the combo is causing the smell either way im getting the CVT fluid changed and Im re-sealing the Y-pipe
