b/c pulling the motor is easy...? i've never done a rebuild for "freshening up" purposes. just drop it in. if it's screwed up, return it. if something happens later on down the road, then fix it. be sure to buy from a reputable company and you won't have any problems just dropping it in.
i would recommend the basic maintenance stuff (ie...water pump, plugs, thermostat...etc) being swapped...but as far as a rebuild, don't waste your money unless you're just into that sort of thing.
the thing about rebuilding a motor that you've never heard run is that you create too many variables if something does go wrong (especially with the quality of a lot of machine shops out there). say you drop in your freshly built motor, and it doesn't run right...by doing the rebuild you've created any number of possible causes. just drop it in stock, get it running right...and build later.
