Does it have remote keyless entry? If so roll down the driver window and close the door. Lock it by remote and wait for a couple minutes and reach through the door and unlock the door and open it. If you have an alarm it'll go off. Pressing the unlock button or unlocking it with the key in the door will disarm the alarm.
If you don't have the remote keyless (or even if you do) you can arm the alarm by locking the doors with the button on the door panel and closing the door. Again, have your driver window down and after a couple minutes reach through and unlock it and open the door. Alarm should go off if you have some protection.
Even if it has an alarm it's pretty basic. Only goes off if the door is opened. I've seen a few occationally that have a glass sensor. After you arm the system you could reach through the open window and rattle your keys on the dash to see of it has the glass microphone. You will normally see that sensor on the dash by an LED light if it has one. If it does it should go off. (I doubt you have one)
All this said, I'd get an aftermarket system. Even a basic one with starter disable, shock/impact sensor, etc. will be better than the OEM one.
