Since my headgasket is not sealing and need to pull the motor and resurface the block, I'm planning on a major buildup this fall/winter/spring. Here's what I have so far but please give me feedback on pros and cons of the combination. With this I am shooting for ~500 hp.

Sounds like a nice plan - what turbo are you thinking that you will use to achieve that power level?

Any specific reason why your set to go 88mm on the bore rather than just using off the shelf (less expensive) 87mm pistons/bore?

I'm doing a similar build only with some headwork and Tomei 256 poncams. I'm leaning towards a GT3076r .82ar

Just wanna throw in my 2 cents......

For 500 whp the stock rods should be ok. If you wanna little more insurance get a set of RB26 rods to make sure you can handle the revs. I would get ARP studs for the rods and have them check over by a machine shope for inperfections. I would use the money saved on not getting forged aftermarket rods to have the oil pump on the crankshaft extended and get a new OEM oil pump. Also get the tomie oil restrictor for the head. Another option would be to get an R33 RB26 crank/rods and pistons and you should be pretty reliable to make 500whp.

You're going to want a flywheel/clutch/pressure plate as well.

Kansei240sx - I already have all that installed so should be good to go.

What do you guys think about forged internals vs. RB26 rods and pistons? My goal is 500hp.

You can get Eagle rod/Wiseco piston combos for around $1,000. I would just go with them for a less expensive solution rather than the stock GTR parts. You could get by with rb26 takeoffs, but why do that when you've already got things cracked open and ready to build?

I figured that if my goal was only 500hp, that stock GTR rods and pistons would be sufficient. I can also get the GTR rods/pistons cheaper.

If you can find GTR parts that easy and cheap, find me an R33-R34 crank.

And everytime you post about adding to your project our ideas get closer and closer. You order list matches mine, minus the camshafts.

I'm looking for the GTR crank and to buy some forged GTR rods and pistons. Extra .1L and a much stouter bottom end. Alot of the Aussie guys expirence rod failure around the 500 mark, so with your luck better safe than sorry.

Another option is to shot-peen and/or cryo the stock RB25 or 26 rods. I haven't had expience with cryo but shotpeening is tried and true. Good luck

Luke
