i dont know if anyone has brought this up on this forum before, but how much can the stock internals on a sr20det handle? i mean, usually when u want to boost around lets say 20 psi wouldnt u want to basically build the engine? for example, maybe resleeve the block, get some new pistons and some new valve springs and rods? im trying to get some info on how strong the engine really is and wut you would have to do to be safe to boost 20 psi and up. if anyone has any information i would appreciate if you help me out.

oh, and one more thing. since the sr20det come with a 8.5:1 compression ratio, would it be safe to raise it to 9:1? considering the fact that its still low and youll be able to put out more hp.

i think 20 psi is the limit on the stock motor, turbo shouldnt be pushed past 14 and the stock smic shouldnt go past 12psi. the sr has a low compression becuz it is turbo and if ur planning on running 20+ psi, you want to lower the compression, not raise it.

Raising the compression on a turbo motor is done to make more power with the same airflow. You just better have the fuel to back it up.

the block should hold but i recomend replacing the pistons and getting stronger rings thats the only thing that i have had a problem with. the rings are always the first to go

well the engine could prolly withstand 20psi, but why not just build it anyway? better safe than sorry.

i knoe its better to be safe then sorry, its just i want to knoe how much work into building it i would need for that amout of power. i remember somone posting a thread saying that the sr can handle 500hp without resleaving the block, which i thought personly sounds kind of risky. and this would be on an aftermarket turbo also, so i guess thats something to take into consideration.

without resleaving block yes, with stock internals and being reliable/safe no. I'd rather 300hp that's bulletproof then a shotty 500hp

You don't need to resleave at 480rwhp.....

Why not look at the SR HP with mods sticky, that should answer your question.

If i recall correctly Phase2 had way more then 20 psi running on a stock bottom end...but they had a lot of blocks to throw out incase it blew...but it is doable

the first thing that always seems to go, is the rings I recomend just buying a piston set and it would come with better rings. the crank is good to go and the rods are iffy the main caps are another thing you need to take into consideration jun makes every piece and every bolt in the sr im shure you can put togather something nice
