Hey guys. I threw a SR20DET into my 1975 Datsun 280Z. It being a 1975 and me being in California means its smog exempt. So theoretically I could run straight pipes, but that's WAY too loud for daily driving and frankly its obnoxious. I also don't want it to be THAT loud because cops would be on my *** all day for noise pollution. I would like something that sounds deep and sexy. So my question is this, what muffler sounds amazing with these engines? I will be running 3" tubing. Basically I can run which ever muffler I want. So the options are vast.

Thanks

Adam

Open pipes on a turbo car isn't that bad, especially with a stock turbo.I'd say a Magnaflow though.

I love the deep tone of the Blitz Nurspec R exhaust on my S13...might be a bit too loud though if you don't want cops following you

Just about any exhaust sounds deep and rumbly on an SR untill you change intake manifolds and a tubular exhaust manifold.

Heres mine with RSR GTII exhaust. Everything possible done to the motor. Would sound deeper on stock intake and exhaust manifold.

I'd run a mangaflow muffler... I have a fujitsubo exhaust on my car and before I took the resonator out it was pretty quiet...

I am running a 100 dollar ebay exhaust on a built bottom end SR, with a stock turbo it is very quiet untill 4k rpm...I use a megan manifold down pipe and hollow stock catalytic converter with the ebay 3" cat back....this exhaust has been on for a year with barely any rust starting on the finish so I would suspect I can get a couple years out of it in New england weather just a suggestion, but when I had my kA i used a flowmaster that had a good note

BTW any exhaust you run you are going custom so you always have the ability to add in resonators throughout to make it quieter.

I was actually thinking about full 3 inch exhaust (no cat, no resonator) with a Cherrybomb Vortex mufller. I'm assuming they have little restiction on then because they don't have any baffles http://www.cherrybomb.com/products/vortex

They really have a badass heavy sound on V6s or V8s. This is the setup i wanna go for next summer. Here in Montreal Canada, cops are anoying always sticking a rod in your exhaust (if it's strairght thru, 255$ ticket) even if it's not loud

I currently run a Blitz cat/back nice sound.. what makes the difference in the resonator and the cat.

resonators give it a deeper sound, cat removes alot of high frequency noise.

another must for exhaust it to use thicker pipes.. also removes high frequency noise.

.....Not bad for my first ever Nico post!!

yup, good first and (currently) only post.

if you want something that is straight through but fools the po po, build in a little wire mesh fence between on of the sections. put it just far enough down the pipe they can't see and you can tell them stop because they are going to damage your (flux capacitor)

I finnaly picked up my Cherry Bomb vortex muffler

i got the 88110 .. 3inch in and twin 3 inch out.. this thing is gonna flow like crazy.. i have big hands and i can put my hand in 2/3 of the way in....and that's only on one tip lool.

i also decided to keep the resonator after seing how huge the twin passages are in the muffler.

the car is comming out of storage in one week. hopefully i have time to install it soon.

Out of all the ones I have heard for the 240 with the SR swap I liked the sound from the Kakimoto Exhaust the best.
