Does anyone have any good sources or info on building an rb25de non turbo into a lowered compression turbo motor as to buy the motor would be enexpensive. I was just thinking that instead of paying the money for the rb25det clip maybe building it with new pistons, rods, etc would be the way to go. Iv'e heard the vg30dett computer and engine harness will work and of course the x member, etc from an r32 would work if installing into an s14 chasis. any ideas?

I will be doing this when My Skyline is sold. I have a an R32 Skyline RB25DE I will slap the thickest head gasket I can get, cam it up and hang a big screw on the side. I am shooting for 400hp

I posted a similar question a while back, the main selling point being how much easier it is to put the RB26 head on it (no vvt). However the problem is it has weaker transmission (same as rb20 i think), no oil squirters, and a fairly inadequate fuel system (for turbo). Its not really worth the price diff if your buying an NA clip vs a rb25det clip. If your talking about just getting the engine itself then you would also need to acquire all the mounting hardware which would jack the price up even more.

I would have to agree, if you goal is turbo shelling out for the turbo mill at the outset would save you a lot of headache. I am using the DE because it has thicker cylider walls, looks like a 20;) the heads are the easiest to bolt onto an RB30(ain't forgot you Megg!) and I picked up the engine for $100.00

That was pretty much the idea. Build it up for turbo without having to buy the det and then build it up. But if I just throw it in the car and go that would probably be ok to. I hear alot of differences about the hp potential of the rb25det. What is the appr. peak hp on a stock rb25det? Safely of course. What? 450? 500? And of course the turbo would be upgraded along with a few mods but mainly stock. On my sr20det Iv'e already got the apex n1 exhaust and spearco fmic. AVC-R and AFC. Just an idea.

On stock internals I wouldn't run higher than 350 maybe 400(assuming fuel, ignition, cooling (including fmic) are optimum). You are also gamb|ing with an iffy engine though, the internals could already be in poor shape(even low miles). Japanese people drive like madmen (especially the ones who own skylines).

Very true very true. Ya know......Iv'e had my car for 4 and a half years and love it and the motor for a little over three. I think it might be time to upgrade to the 97-98 instead of my 96 even though I want to put the s15 front on or maybe just go back to the old 77 or 78 280z and go skyline that way. I miss my 77. It had a chevy 305 though. IM A ROCKET MAN!!!!! Im just gonna buy another 20det block and build it up. s hit I dont know.
