Ok,

so I would rather build my KA than swap an SR. Question is, how much will it cost me? I'm looking to re-build it(it's got 208k on it) and put a reliable turbo kit into it. Can anyone offer advice/point me in the right direction?

add up the cost of all the parts then call a machine shop and ask how much their machine work is going to be.

i'm getting my motor built w/ arias(.020" over), eagle rod, acl main/rod bearing, arp main/head studs, felpro full gasket set, osk timing chain kit, and Briancrower stage2 camshafts for about $1670 in parts. Paying $1100 for full built, including bore, honed, hot tanked, checked for cracks, painted, installing all the parts, 5 angle intake valve job and 7 angle for exhaust, everything taken apart and cleaned.

for a grand total of about $2770, OMG i just realized how much money i thrown into the engine . my whole t25 turbo kit cost me $3k+ since i went all out with name brand parts.

You have to do it in stages, IMO.

You have a clear goal, and you have to set up a plan.

My plan was rebuild the motor, and break it in. While breaking it, I saved for my turbo kit parts. I bought the turbo parts and as I was breaking that in, I saved for wheels/tires. Then I saved for brakes. Next is cooling, seats, a cage, etc.

It works out much better for you if you have a clear plan and try to stick to it, but remember that life happens. You might need some money for something else or you might have something in your car break.

FYI, after rebuilding my motor, installing a turbo, wheels, tires, suspension, and other odds and ends I've cracked about $11K. It adds up quick. I however did not cheap out on anything really...

having a car as a hobby is really expensive, but pays off in the end.

Currently am doin a rebuild on my motor. For Arias .20 over pistons, AMS/Turbo240 Sportsman Series Rods, Clevite Main and Rod Bearings, Fel-pro Full Engine Gasket Set, Arp Main/Head Studs, New timing set, New OEM oil pump, and Crower Stage 2 Cams all for around $1800. Then the motor was hot tanked, bored, honed, and resurfaced for $200. So $2000 in parts but am putting together myself so that should save me some money. Jeez am droppin alot of money .
