DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE DIFFERENCE WAS BETWEEN THE 200ZR AND THE 300ZX Z31, BESIDES THE ENGINE? I CAN GET A GOOD SHELL FOR NOTHING AND WAS WONDERING WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO BUILD A 200ZR, MINUS THE RHD?

Go for the 250ZR!I think the shell besides seating is the same. You will need motor mounts though, they are different. I know they allow you to put the RB26 in the S130's...the older Z cars.

WELL I'M THINKING WITH THE 200ZR I CAN GET THAT CROSSMEMBER AND USE THE RB20. WELL IN THAT CASE I CAN USE THE RB25DE W/ RB20 MOUNTS AND IT SHOULD FIT. I DUNNO I HAVE ONE OF EACH ENGINE SO IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER.

where can you get those mounts? mckinney never attempted to give me a straight answer [probably because i refuse to pay them $600 for mounts]. i figure if the VG will bolt into a Z31, then the rb-z31 mounts would be an excellent starting point for bolting the rb in the J [VG].

THE 200ZR IS A RB20DET POWERED Z31, SO THIS MEANS THEY HAVE A CROSSMEMBER AVAIBABLE FOR THIS ENGINE. IN YOUR CASE, IS THE J BASED OFF THE Z32? IF IT IS TRY THE SKYLINE CROSSMEMBER IT MAY WORK BECAUSE THESE THREE CARS SHARE SIMILAR SUSPENSIONS (R32-34, S13-15, Z32). THE R30-31 IS SIMILAR TO THE Z31 WHICH IS ALSO SIMILAR TO THE S12.

no, i didnt mean for me to use the crossmember. the J's crossmember will NOT bolt into a S chassis, therefore im not expecting to be able to use the R crossmember.

what i was figuring was if the rb will bolt into the Z31 with only mounts or block adapters from the ZR, then i might have a chance at getting those parts to work on the J.

the J's crossmember is more similar to the Z32, but it is still different. the J has a front sump oilpan, which the others do not.

im just trying to see if there are any oem parts i can use to bolt the motor in [doesnt look that way, ive been looking for months].

what its probably going to come down to is me having block mounts machined to drop the RB onto the J's insulators, or me casting new insulators from FRP or hard rubber at the proper spacing and angle. its just a good two days of work that im trying to get around.

OHH OK, THAT I DONT KNOW.... I'M ASSUMING ITS TWO DIFFERENT CROSSMEMBERS BUT IT MAY BE A MATTER OF ENGINE MOUNTS AND INSULATORS. THIS IS WHAT I'M TRYING TO FIND OUT AS OF NOW.

yeah, me too. i gotta do all the research now and get it squared away. the shop that i work at is always extremely busy, and i dont think my boss is gonna let me use a bay for two weeks, so i have to do the work up at my uncles house which is 50 miles away. i cant be figuring these things out when im in the middle of swapping.

i read on a z31 forum that one guy swapped in a VG30DET [single turbo] into a z31 using the mounts out of the clip [not crossmember] so i figure if the twin cam vg will drop into the z31, then the mounts for the rb-z31 should be good, or need minor modding.

I asked my source in AU a while ago for this x-member, and he said he would keep his eye out for one. However, he said they are very very rare.

well, if the zr wasnt available in australia [was it?], then you would be limited to what ever was imported. i would say trying to get them from japan would be a better idea.
