My parents new grand prix has an absolutely stunning stock sound system..... its the stock monsoon, and i thought the bose was good, until i heard this system.... Now, the bose sounds like a boombox with a little more bass.....

I obviously already have a good sub and amp... Or at least one thats decent enough for me...

I dont really know what I need, but id assume totally eliminate the bose system.. Id kind of like to get a head unit that i could easily hook in an MP3 player, or at least a CD changer... Or one that could read MP3s on a CD-RW

I just want something that provides good sound quality, with some added bass, i dont need anything thats like excessive, i just want to have a better sound system than what my parents have in their grand prix

I would DEFINITELY want a double DIN head unit, not necessarily with a DVD or whatever... thats kind of cool, but not really necessary...I just dont wnat to have a cheesy extra spot left in the dash...

Id like to keep costs around $300, including HU, speakers, and an amp if I need it.... Id also like to get some tweeters to put in the place of the stock tweeters...

Bose isnt bad, but once I get the car paid off, id like to do some serious upgrades, and since I dont have any maintenance to do, i figure i might as well do it on other things

Whether you realize it or not, you just asked PMQ to put together a system for you.

IMHO, you'd be hard pressed to get a double DIN & 2 good (front) door speakers for $300, the 2nd set of speakers, tweeters and amp would send you north of $500 in a heartbeat. Sorry .

I dont want a home stereo in the rear seat

I wonder if I could use the bose tweeters...... Maybe eliminate the HU and maybe just keep the bose HU with an in-dash CD or something along those lines...

I geuss what im asking, what I can i get to build a decently nice system for 300-500... I want it better than bose, but nothing like eargasmic (but as close as possible )

ASk and you shall receive. Here are my recommendations:

Head UnitPanasonic CQ-C3300U

Front Speakers :either Cerwin Vega SeperatesOr Orion C63Note, you will have to modify the pod to get these to fit

Rear Speakers

Oh crap, I forgot about the rear speakers

Something to fill that second DIN

instead of filling in the second din just buy an installer kit for 15 bucks from your local stereo shop. i work at one and they are so much better

I think he's going double DIN, but if he doesn't, I'd agree - pocket over full DIN eq.

my moms jetta has a monsoon system... i have to say it's the best stock system i have heard for the price... it's a $900 upgrade, and it holds it's own. you'd be very hard pressed to come anywhere close to it for $300 (unless that $300 is for speakers alone). the design of the speaker mounts and everything has a big role in the sound... the largest speaker in my moms car is 6 1/2 "... anyway good luck because you will need it. by the way the jetta is a 2000 model (which means she got it in 1999) and it's system still sounds as good as new.

You've never heard of me have you? Give me $50 and i'll repair your whole car .

Seriously though, I think that you meant the Enclosure plays the biggest role in the sound of a speaker.

Wes, have you decided on anything yet?

What are you actually looking for?

I think that you might be well off by just replacing the tweeters with a set of these:

Books on tape are the biggest reason, that and the US never embraced the MD or DAT formats. If there was a single standard for portable media, then maybe they'd have memory slots on the front, now that would be cool.

Yes, there are, but just as with TV's that have both, people don't lke to use the fronts for the same reason Wes mention.

I'll look around for one, if you give me some ideas of what you want price, brands, features, built in power, etc.

As for me, I would have a wire run from behind the HU under the console and be under the armrest. That way I'd just open the armrest, plug the wire into the iPod, MP3, etc and be hooked up, no wires showing.

It's all about preference.

Same with me... Id rather have a wire in the center console or ashtray thats inconspicuously hidden, rather than have this trash all over the dash.....

Most do it from the rear anyway....

dont waste your money on an EQ right now. you definately will not need one. just spend the money on a decent HU/speakers/amp.

i know at least 2 aiwa's have front aux inputs, but they arent good HU's at all. I know a lot of panasonics have rear aux inputs, which would help you keep the install clean as long as you dont mind leaving the cable for the mp3 player in the car.

YEah.

For the rear inputs I personally would wire up the RCA inputs to be under the armrest. That would look MUCH cleaner then having a cable laying around.

ALso, I agree on the EQ part.

Get a descent ALpine HU. check out http://www.cbrstereo.com

Last time I checked they had a really nice one on sale.
