I thought that was the car that started out as an electric car with a turbine engine for the generator. Either way, 500hp in a 1.6L engine is amazing. And good emissions to boot??

so 2012 the turbines

the original design was 4 electric motors producing 780 hp
2 micro turbines making 94 hp each charged the batteries

70 miles on the batteries
560 miles on a tank of gas
0-60 in about 3 seconds
top speed of 200+ mph

In the end the turbines didn't make sense. The car is beautiful and well designed so they cobbled together this little supercharged turbocharged motor and fit it where the turbines would have gone. Trying to drum up enough interest (orders) to build it and recover some of the development cash they burned creating 3 of them!

Yea, I've looked into turbine engines for electric generation in the past, and they just don't really work in small sizes. The complexity vs. output vs. cost just isn't there in small size turbine engines.
