I can't vouch for how accurate this is, but Hoehn Infiniti (San Diego, CA) now has a build-a-G37 tool at http://www.hoehnmercedes.com/i...e.htm

FYI--I just tested it out--it does allow for some "impossible" scenarios like red/wheat with sport. (Wheat isn't available.) But it's not bad overall--especially for calculating cost!

Thanks for the find. Can anyone explain why the 4AWAS requires the purchase of the premium package??

It sounds like it requires some of the processor infrastructure found in that package. I don't think you'll get around that.

I'm not quite sure on that. I believe that the 4WAS just needs premium package as a prerequisite. I think that you could get 4WAS while not getting premium package but I'm not positive.

Processor infrastructure???? Let me get this straight: A moonroof, an audio system and a power seat require a processor???? The premium package doesn't list anything about a "processor".

This sounds like a ploy to gouge the customers with the premium package if they want to get the 4WAS.

Oh, I was just talking off the top of my head...I didn't look at the exact specifications of the premium package but rather just made a semi-educated guess on how the two might inter-relate. I agree, if that's all that's in the package, I doubt there's a necessary connection but rather more of a profit-oriented one. Shocker.

Kinsman;

Sorry, I didn't mean any offense. Just looking at whats in the premium package its difficult for me to understand what connection there is between that and 4WAS.

It looks like Infiniti is trying to line their pockets.........which may drive some customers to BMWAudi/Lexus. If one has to shell out that kind of money an upgrade to another brand isn't too far off.

Hey, no offense taken! I agree--Infiniti is riding the G35 coupe's success in order to cash in a bit more on this car.

It's not quite the steal/value vs. the 3-series as last time, but obviously, it's still considered a great car on its own merits.

Nonetheless, even seeing an Audi TT 3.2 running at $50k comparably equipped and with arguably lower overall performance, I still feel like the G37 is a good value--just not quite AS good.

It bothers me a little to see people calling the G37 a "good bargain" compared to its competitors. This might have been true for the G35 coupe, but I think the G37 is good enough to stand on its own without considering price. Whether it suits you is far more important.

My requirements for a car are fast, good handling, quiet and comfortable. When I started shopping, the only brands on my short list were Porsche, BMW and Audi. The following is a list of the cars I test drove, in descending order of my personal preference and independent of cost of ownership:

2008 Infiniti G37 ($42k)2004 Infiniti G35 coupe ($30k)2005 Infiniti G35 coupe ($32k)2000 BMW 328Ci ($19k)2004 BMW 325xi (didn't ask)2008 Audi TT Quattro V6 ($45k)1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 ($30k)2001 Porsche 911 Turbo ($60k)2007 Porsche Cayman ($55k)2007 Porsche Cayman S ($65k)

Note that I least liked the three most expensive cars.

I understand and agree with your point--that the car should be considered for its qualities outside of price--but ultimately, I don't think this one attribute can be ignored, either. It's akin to saying the car has a nice 0-60 time compared to most other sport coupes--these are all simple facts of life about the car's attributes.

Honestly, if I had unlimited funds, I'd pick up an Aston Martin. Price has to play a role in my decision-making at some point.

Again, I can totally relate to your assertion: it's too nice a car for its identity to simply fall upon how good a value it is. (On the other hand, I think the Mustang GT gets too much credit for what a "value" it is.) Nonetheless, it's still an ingredient in the G37's winning formula.

When I bought my 1984 RX-7, it was a very good car and a fantastic bargain compared to the Porsche 944 I was also considering. This time, there was no "and" in my decision. When I started shopping, I expected to end up with a Cayman and budgeted accordingly. Therefore, it was a great disappointment to find that I couldn't live with one regardless of price.

I look at the G37's price in two ways. For those who can afford a G37 but not a Porsche, the car they can afford is arguably preferable to the car they can't. For those who can afford either, the G37 is still arguably preferable and the price difference is a windfall. I can find good use for the money I'm not spending on a Porsche.
