RB25 Series II, Holset HX35, 21psi, Power FC, 800cc Sard injectors w/ RB26 resistor pack, Buick Coil (unknown type or age), New plug wires

Ever since I bumped the boost from 14 to 21psi, I keep getting spark blow out from 5-6k rpm depending on load (sounds like I'm hitting the rev limiter). Currently running the Champion equivalent of NGK BKR7e-11. Plugs are gapped at .030. The engine is grounded to the frame with some 1ga wire, same with the battery. My 300zx ignitor clip is also grounded to the frame. When free revving, it hits 7500 no problem.

What am I missing? On my RB26 with split fire coil packs it didn't have any problems with the same NGK plugs past 25psi. Are there some dwell setting in the PFC that need to be changed?

Are you running a wasted spark setup with those? If so, they might not have enough time to recharge. I'm guessing at that one.

Matt,
yes he's running waste spark. that's why i told him to post on here and ask about dwell times. since he's using the pfc we should be able to change the times in fc edit. but to what? multiply 1.5? thanks for any input. you guys can take you time. i rather enjoy him being slower than me right now! :)

The fact that it is wasted spark should not be an issue as I ran this same coil pack on my rb20 revving to 8.5k without issues. The fact that the coil pack seems to be a mystery coil pack I would say to replace it with a new one and ensure that full voltage is going to it.

The fact is it has nothing to do with how high you rev. It's all about cylinder pressure, air//fuel mixture, and other weaker ignition components making it harder for the ignition coil to do it's job. You can have crappy plugs and a brand new super duper coil and it won't fire, or new plugs and an old crappy coil and same thing. There are many degrees of different things not working also.

I know nothing about wasted spark set ups since the factory coil packs are good to well over 700whp if they are in good shape, but for trouble shooting sake I would try a different coil. How hard would it be to throw the stock coils back on there?

lower your gap... go down to .025 and see how it does. i have to go all the way down to .020 in my car to get away from it...

that's ridiculous and very inefficient. you want the largest gap you can for the best flame front, power and use of fuel. like chris said, there are alot of factors that can contribute. i still say replace the wiring. then the coil. or like you told me you were going to, just put the split fires in there from your 26.

your right, 600whp at 18psi is pretty inefficient....
