Hi there,
I got a USA-SPEC adapter installed in my 07 M45S about two years ago and am using a dedicated 2008 iPod Nano 16GB to drive it. The included manual was terrible, so I left it in All Songs - Random mode for most of that time. This worked fine and FF/RW work as intended.
Lately however, I've been trying to use some of the higher order functionality - namely Artist, Genre, and Playlist select - with terrible results. It's hard to even access these modes because pushing the requisite preset button will usually cause the system to switch to the radio preset (AM, FM, or XM) instead of changing iPod modes. After various combinations of hitting the Radio button, rebooting, unplugging, and restarting the car, I can get the correct functionality on the preset buttons for a limited time. Genre and Playlist select are pretty stable once I'm able to access them. Artist select (my preferred mode) is very unstable. It will work for a couple of car restarts and then it will dump directly to XM after playing for 5 seconds while accessing the CD player (I hear the gears whirring like it's trying to load a disc or switch discs even though there are no discs in there). Overall, this USA-SPEC adapter is performing terribly compared to a similar DICE Silverline adapter that I installed in my E46.
Before I take the car back to the stereo shop (or get rid of the car), I wanted to find out if other people are having similar issues or if someone out there might have a fix? How buggy or stable is your USA-SPEC adapter?
Thanks!
