Budget CAI - Cut n Add...?

Was just gonna go and change my air filter since it was looking a little dirty and thought why the hell not just put in a cold air intake

What I was thinking of doing, on my 01 qx4 by the way, was simply cut the oem pipe AFTER the MAF sensor, which is 3" diameter solid plastic, and adding a short run of 3" pipe with a aftermarket filter on the end. It wont mess with the maf at all would it?

and btw, i said budget, because im broke lol

So by cutting the oem pipe, and adding a nice flowing filter I will only have spent like $5 more than just changing the oem filter. I dont ever plan on returning to stock, unless it sounds horrible... which I dont think is possible
