For tonight's update, I took on tubbing and clearancing the passengers' side inner fenders. I stopped on my way home from work and picked up a 35"x9" trailer fender. When I got home I took a few mins to draw on the stock structure with a sharpie, and with the help of one of my friends... started cutting. I know after all the other work that was done on this car it shouldn't be an issue, but for some reason I got myself all psyched out about this part of the project. There was no reason to have, it was ridiculously simple. Below are pictures

Plan tomorrow night is to get some sheet metal and finish up the passengers side, and start and complete the drivers side. I dont think thats too tall of a task.

This has been an expensive week, PBM max angle kit ordered. Get paid tomorrow, and ordering all the pieces for the suspension arms. If i keep up this pace, by the end of next week (depending on shipping times) I should be able to put most of the suspension back together.

I got the passenger's side inner fender as finished as I can with the motor still in the car. It took a lot longer than I thought it would to get everything to fit together nicely. anyways, below is a picture of it all tacked together

and calling it an early night because I got these in the mail, can't wait to watch em.

Since I am bored at work, and I don't think I have listed exactly what my plans to accomplish this winter are I figured I would go over them.

For the chassis:
FD legal cage
Stitch welding the chassis
Re-fabing the inner bed structure
Moving the rear strut tower mounts 2" higher (lower ride height without removing the spring prelode)
Making a front "power brace"
Gusseting key areas of the chassis
Crash bars in the front and rear
Expanding foam if there is time

Steering/Suspension:
Adjustable arms all around. Probably the only one left stock will be the rear lower.
Moving the steering rack forward on the front lower cross member
PBM adjustable spacers

Engine:
GSXR 750 or 1000 ITBS
Megasquirt standalone computer
Thin and wire tuck the engine harness

Other:
Rewire the front clip to remove all of the factory fuse blocks and extra wiring

I have been reading a ridiculous amount of build threads, taking notes on things I do and don't like. I know its a decently ambitious list of things to accomplish, but I think I can get it all done.

Awesome! looks like quite the list there! I read a bit on going carb found a few write ups on adapting old gsxr carbs to ka24de very cool stuff. They drill out main jets and what not so def. not for me cause im NOT a fabricator whatsoever. Id say you could handle it no problem. Gas milage is obviously not gonna be better than efi route but max power WOT from reading superchevy and stuff seems neglitable. Of course efi is the way to go but if your already bent on megasquirt that takes care of ignition might save ALOT of money eh just a thought.

Wish you were lived close i need to get my roof fixed no idea what to do hood flew up smashed it in. Windshield was replaced all done by original owner. I was thinking carbon fiber roof cover on ebay and fiberglassing it in but .....500$ anyways good luck man

It's been a while since I updated this. a lot has gotten done since then. Finished the tubs, moved the steering rack forward, got the max angle kit welded to the spindles, Moog front ball joints, Moog s14 outer tie rods, Ikea Formula s14 Inner tie rods, Chassis harness has been thinned, and is almost done (waiting on my fuse block to come in). Then the engine has to go back in, make sure my wiring is correct, then its time to do a tuck on the engine harness. Also picked up a ISIS radiator/fan/radiator hose package. Something I was going to need eventually, and at a sale price I couldn't pass up.

Picked up coupe with a silvia front, tein superdrift coilovers, white line front and rear sway bars, xxr 962s with spacers, full header back exhaust, and some knock off CAI. Gona swap front ends, and suspension over onto the truck and drive the coupe thru the rest of the winter.

Now for pics.

Sold my fb rx7 winter car, so I spent the weekend fixing up and respraying the coupe so I could drive it. Got my hands on some free primer, and single stage laguna seca blue off a BMW, so it was a more legit paint job than I had planned.

I still have to clean up and respray the wheels because they are in rough shape. Oh, the fuse block that I have been waiting on for 3 weeks finally showed up, so I can finally continue progress on the truck.

It is a blue sea marine 12 circuit fuse block, I like them because they have a nice clear cover to keep everything protected. I ordered it like 3 weeks ago, and it got lost somewhere in Indiana. I needed to finish my wiring before I can really do much else to the car. Have to make sure the engine starts before I tuck the engine harness.

Thanks, It gets a lot of attention drive'n around town. My cell camera cant even do the colors justice, it just wont pick up how bright they are. Can't decide if Im going to paint the wheels white with a polished lip, or the yellow from the hood with a polished lip.

Dayummmm gotta give it to ya man. Never seen one of these before, if there's others out there like people post about I have yet to see one on the road... Very original, good body work, good welds, I like how you threw your "drift tire supply" in the bed too LOL. Good work, can't wait to see the updates. :werd:

The car is all wired and ready to be loomed up. next step is to put the engine back in and tuck the engine bay.

I need to find some new parts for the daily. Either need to buy a rf silvia headlight, left front bumper light, both corner markers, and a rf fender, or I need to find a pignose bumper and stock fenders. Went out for a street sesh with some friends, hit a clutch kick 2 hard and spun.

Before I get s*** for street drifting, we were way out in the country where there were no houses or traffic, and it was late at night. This is what I got this car for, to practice and not f*** up my good cars. s*** happens, we had a good laugh over it and now the car has a story and some battle scars. My only regret is I didnt have my go-pro filming at the time.

Updates on both cars.

Last friday was the first open drift at our local track. Had a blast running tandem with one of the other local guys. The couoe suffered some damage tho. Dirt dropped in a hole and bent the left side rlca, and snapped a few of the exhaust hangers. Also, the stock driveshaft gave our, so i have the driveshafts for both the coupe and the truck out being made into 1 piece deals. I'll post some vide up once i get it edited. Anyways, pics.

"fixed" the front on the coupe. Colorado blinkers and grill with the silvia projectors. Still have to weld in the openings in the fenders.

I really like a lot of what I see. I love the color and you did a great job fabing up the Sil-Camino. I think you will have problems drifting 11" wide rears with an NA KA. But all and all looks sick. I'm really happy that you are going to put the JDM front on the Sil-Truck because i personally feel the lines flow better. All and all, super nice job.

went to the NICO show at carlisle a few weeks ago. attempted to shake the truck down, and drifting it didnt go as planned. the check engine light was flashing during the entire trip and it was severely lacking any low end power. Would initiate drift fine, but once the momentum was scrubbed off the rear wheels just hooked. SO, the truck was parked, and i took all my frustrations out on the coupe. few pics from the event below.

Thanks dude. Im debating what i am going to do with the high compression motor. Im buying an sr for the coupe, and putting my rb25 into the truck. So i think its prolly gona be put in the corner of the shop, timeout status. Make it face the wall and think about how it ran.

I found a thread a while back that talked about putting a VVL head on an SR20DET and getting some good power out of it. A swap like that would make this car more interesting under the hood. :dblthumb: Just a thought.

Quick update.

Still hate the motor in the truck, so it is going away. Putting the rb25 in it in a week or so. Love to drive it around, but as of right now, it is a stanced out show car, and not the drift car i built. Beyond annoyed.

I picked up a pignose bumper and 240 fenders for the coupe. Going to rock it with the silvia hood. Cut the destroyed core support out and replaced it with a tubular core.

Got new lug nuts for both cars to replace the crappy advance auto specials that were on both. The splines were all stripped off the lugs.

Thanks dude. I have to respray the pink and yellow on the sil hood. They are starting to fade bad.

Nick, id love to get one. Almost ordered one about a month ago, but decided id rather put the $ towards a sr for the coupe.

Hopefully i'll have the front end finished tonight or tomorrow so the car can get beat on again.

Drove the truck to a car show the other day. Still hate it. Cant wait to throw that motor in a river or something. I'm gona give 1 more shpt at fixing the hc ka then im just putting the rb in it.

The coupe is finished. Painted the engine bay, and resprayed the colors on the hood last night. Realigned it, and once i mount up some tires it'll be ready to shread this weekend. Track day friday, and a parkinglot sesh in syracuse saturday. Hopefully i'll have pics and vid to post.

Ok, update time.

We finally had another track day. Seemed like it had been forever. Was right around 100 degrees out so the cars were all running hot. A removed front bumper left my fenders flopping all around so I took them off 2. Had a fun time beating on the car. Ended up on an opposing tire change/cool down schedule of most people at the track so I didn’t get a whole lot of tandem action in After a few hours of slide time, my clutch slave cylinder gave out so I slid the rest of the night with no clutch. This forced me to work on suspension only entries, which need some improvement. So it wasn’t all bad.

Image

Image

Few other shots from the day.

The next day we took a trip to English town for East Coast Bash. This was the first time I had gone to any sort of a drift event of this magnitude. It was insane! We were already planning on hitting the road course on July 28 th ,but this got me even more psyched.

Image

I realized that to go to a Club Loose event, and put on the show I wanted to I would need more power. Since I was still short of properly putting an sr in the coupe,I decided to use a motor I already had sitting around. As soon as the week hit, I began ordering parts. Holset HX35 turbo, Greddy type rz BOV, Tial 38mm Wastegate, and all the flanges and accessories I would need to make it all work. Also to comply with club loose rules I purchased a new G-Force SA2010 helmet, tow straps, and fire extinguisher.

To prepare the chassis while I was waiting on parts, we cut out the rust on the passenger’s side frame rail and boxed it in.

Image

Forgot to take a pic of it finished. I will later.

A week prior my friend that is in the shop with me nearly every night laid his bike down on the highway, so I did the body work and resprayed it for him.

Image

He got a wobble at highway speeds, and put it down at about 50. Somehow he rode the bike back home. His was the damage. Got the fairings on the right side, needed a new helmet, and a bit of roadrash, but he was super lucky overall.

Image

In the next few days, Parts began arriving.

Image

Image

Two nights ago we pulled the rb25 out of my red hatch, and began taking prepping it for it’s new home.

Image

The exhaust manifold had been sent out to get the wastegate flange welded on, and I got a reconfirmation of how horrible everything mckinney is when both motor mounts were broken. Pic I got a Freddy intake manifold with a q45 throttle body on it off another friend, got that bolted on, and the turbo mocked up on the engine last night.

Image

Waiting on my buddy Rob to make me some new engine mounts and studs for the turbo, and then it will be ready to put in the coupe. Either tonight or tomorrow night the ka will be removed and I’ll get everything all prepped for the rb to set in. Once its bolted in place I need to make an o2 housing to mate the turbo up to the current down pipe, and a dump pipe for the wastegate. More updates soon.

The rb ran like a champ at the track day. All went well, but soke tire/fender clearance issues arose after the rear camber was removed to improve the rear grip. The fender metal got so hot from contact that it melted some of the rear harness.

Image

To correct the problem, I ordered in some zg fender flares and hacked away the rear quarters.

Image

I lengthened the flca's 1.5", and rotated the camber plates to be caster plates. The s14 moog inner tierods were replaced with the longer Ikea Formulas I had on the truck, and the rack was moved as far forward as possible to correct over centering. This all allowed for much more steering angle.

The green tape is previous angle

Image

Image

Some Subaru Outback sidekirts, a Jetta front lip, and stock coupe wing were put on to help with the more agressive look. Finished aligning it in timw to load up and go to the track again.

This week was probably one of the most relaxed and enjoyable days of the season. Everything just worked. It was supposed to rain so it was just a small group of people. We cooked out and ran 3 car tandems all day. Got a ton of great footage, and got to screw around in the rain at the end of the day.

it has been a long time since i have updated this thread, so here is how the rest of the season/winter has gone.

Image

so now, the car was handling amazingly. It took a little bit of time to get used to all the new angle, and how you had to self steer the car some. Once I was adjusted it felt great, and for once I got to drive my car home. The next two weeks were slow, I changed tires and checked over a few things but had no major things to do.

Went to the track ready to get more tandem practice in. After about 1/2 of the day had gone by, I noticed a slight knock at idle. The bolts holding the oil return line had backed out from the bottom of the turbo, and I had run the engine low on oil. My drift season had come to an end. The coupe got stuck in the corner, and I spent the rest of the summer cruise'n around in the truck, and go'n to a few car shows.

A month or so passed, and I got back to work on the coupe. We pulled the motor out to see the damage. Cylinder 3 had spun a connecting rod bearing and scored the crank. So, I needed to rebuild it, or buy another long block. Both seemed to cost about the same about so yesterday I ordered in a long block. Less work for the same result.

In the mean time, the car has been completely gutted. The old cage has been removed, and a new Formula D legal cage is nearly completed. We made a bolt in rear section with an aluminum 10 gal fuel cell, and a rear firewall. A lot of the rust has been repaired, and tonight I am going to start working on wiring the chassis.

I also picked up a sponsorship from RLD Fabrication for a tubular divided turbo manifold, down pipe, and aluminum exhaust. He has been doing Honda stuff for a few years and is looking to break into Nissan. I'll get pics of it up in a week or two when it is finished.

This is how it sat 2 nights ago. I needed the shop space so one of my buddies could do some work on his car.
