Starting this thread as more of a check list and what not but since its on here I'll give a little history and the story to this car.

I bought this car in October of 2010 so I had a car while my 89 Nissan 240sx was coming apart for the winter for a major overhaul(stilling working on it). Anyways as the seasons are getting warmer and I'm getting more anxious to get my 240 back out and stuff I figure it was time for paint on the 240 since every panel is off the car anyways and my buddy has a shop and is going to let me use it to finish my car up in return for helping him prep and paint some cars for him. I've been searching for a new car and got approved by my bank for enough to get a g35. So I figured something has to happen with the j30 and my cousin has one year of high school and she does not have a car as her parents will not buy her one and her mom will not let her get a job until she graduates. Being the nice cousin that I am and the fact that I won't get much out of my J anyway I have decided that I am going to fix up my little J and give it to her next year when she graduates as a graduation present. Now the thing around here for people to do is paint their cars a loud color and put some shiny wheels on it. Usually larger then our normal 17s and 18s. Here is what I am going to do throughout the next year in order to get this car nice for her.

Bubble Gum Pink Paint(going in as soon as I finish up the paint on the 240 or buy my G35)
22" wheels with a nice lip/Powder coat white 18"+ factory infiniti wheels
Install 2 way remote start/alarm
Get Interior redone in Pink/White
*Replace Illumination Switch
Dye the carpet and headliner
Replace all gaskets on engine and any other parts as needed
Full tune up and fresh fluids

After that is all done then I can give the car to her as a nice graduation present and she will have her first car that should last her a decent amount of time.
The things with * by them are parts that I need and if any fellow members has those that they would like to get rid of please let me know. Pictures of progress will start soon as I start doing things to the car. Right now it is my only car until I find the G35 I want or finish my 240. Thanks for reading sorry for length.

Oh yeah, her bubblegum J30 will bring all the boys to the yard.

Good luck with the transformation.. I'm interested in seeing the final pictures. In the end, it's a really nice thing for you work that hard and put so much effort in the car for someone else. Nice guy.

I figured it would be a nice thing to do and at least if she has it I can always get her to let me take it out every now and then when she is back at home on college breaks. But I have a little over a year to do this but I'd like to get it started so I can whip it around when it's done.

Thank you! A lot of my friends say the same thing. I should be going to get the paint probably next friday. Gotta a lot to do before it actually goes on but I wanna have it so I can play around with a spare hood off my 240 I have laying around for different sealers and primers. Then I'm going to play around with different metallics and pearls in the paint to so I can get the exact effect I'm looking for. Then I just gotta get the 240 back on the road so I can have transportation to have this car down for about a month to get everything done to it.

If anyone reads this and can photoshop they should use a pic of a J30 on here and put a light pink on it so everyone can get the idea of what this thing is gonna look like.

Ya I figured most ppl here would say 22s are too big for j. They will fit no problem and I will prolly not leave them on for too long its just I wanna throw them on for when I'm with all my friends who are riding on 22s all the way up to 30s. Also my painter wants to get all the cars he painted to get together so it will look in place. I will prolly get some 19s n get them powder coated white to offset the interior since I'm doing something wild with the interior now too.

What are some factory infiniti wheels that would look good in white on the J30?

I really like those and I am also digging the new IPL wheels too. Now to find them for a good enough price is a whole other story.

My buddy who does paint and body work is in the process of painting his 1996 Chevy Caprice. I will post pics as soon as I get my camera. May not be anyones cup of tea on here but it will show the work my paint and body guy can do. Also he told me that we are using a paint brand called sikkens. It is a very good paint that he used at the dealership on a daily basis.

NO CHEAP PAINT FOR ME!!!! :chuckle:

YES, the G37 IPL wheels would look so sick too!! I've never heard of Sikkens before but then again I'm not really into paint brands that much. I can't wait to see the pics. People do some crazy things on those Chevy Caprices and I expect no less from your paint guy!! :mike

Ok here are some progress pics and some other random pics I have of his work. Ill pull up some more that are on my comp and upload those as well. I don't have any that I can find at the moment of the car when he got it and body work done but it wasn't pretty

26" Iroc wheels squatting. Only one on at this point.
Image

The grey you see is sealer. Anywhere that is maroon was painted so we could lay the graphics on top of. Stripes were not added yet.
Image

This is right after the black was sprayed and the caprice ss sticker pulled off
Image

This is the hood. The stripes are also on roof and trunk. This is after two layers of clear coat. Remember the stripes, caprice ss, and the black are all paint.
Image

No other pictures were really taken at this point. We wet sanded the car at this step but did not buff it out as we are letting this clear coat sit open to cure and then we will flow coat it with a high solids clear and at that point we will wet sand and buff that final clear and it will be glass. Clear went on today wet sand and buffing we are working on this week. All trim pieces and chrome have been painted black.

Sorry InfinitiEric no Donk here really. WE take big wheels and we squat the cars on them not sky jack them.

He painted this car five years ago and still looks new to this day. This was actually taken last week. 26s i believe. He barely brings this car out
Image

Bad picture. He did not paint the truck but he painted the 30" wheels to match. This truck belongs to the owner of the rim shop around here that is the most popular one anyway.
Image

Wheels Before mounted 30s
Image

Buddies 1987 Monte Carlo SS on 22s Painter only did the wheels bought car already white
Image

Same guy that owns the Monte Carlo above. Painter did the whole car and the wheels 24s
Image

Different buddy of mine Park Ave Ultra on 22s was silver and beat to hell before painter got it.
Image

Painters Daily driver. This is the fourth paint job on this car and he rushed this one. 3 Days rushed
Image

The quarter panel to the 1996 Caprice in above post during body work
Image

24s he did for our buddies crown royal crown vic
Image

Painters Lady 2010 Maxima. Who knows what he will do to this one. He said no paint on it for awhile but I've heard that one before. You can see her 02 monte carlo intimitador edidtion behind the max its burnt orange with golf flake on 22s that match.
Image

Thats all for now. He has many more cars and tons of wheels but I don't have pics of everything nor the time to upload. He repairs cars at a dealership all day long so I could show you tons of cars that just get their factory color back on them but that would be no fun. Next on his list is a Bubble Gum pink J30!!!

Thank you I'm sure he would appreciate it. My painter of all people hates doing stuff like that but he does like his big wheels and loud music but likes clean over look at me now. I will def keep you guys updated on the Caprice.

Eric you don't happen to have an illuminator switch for a 94 J30 do you? My dash lights don't work and have sourced it to that part. I figured I don't need to replace door panel or seat anymore since I'm getting the interior redone anyway.

Unfortunately no. NICOclub's sponsor, InfinitiPartsUSA, might be able to source one for you though. Give them a call at 1 (888)-344-6346 and be sure to let them know you're a NICOclub member - it should land you a discounted price.

ok so today we didn't get as far as we would have liked to but we got everything wet sanded and buffed. Just didn't get the side cleared. Anyways on to pictures.

the roof was finished at this point. recleared wet sanded, buffed, polished, and ultrfinna
Image

Here's the hood recleared and the start of the dry sanding before the wet sanding. done with 1200 gritt on a da.
Image

Finished product. Was going to show every step but you really can''t tell the difference but in person it is just WOW!! :naughty:
Image

Process is as follows
Paint laid, clear laid, clear wet sanded, car washed and dried, let stand for a day, reclear, wet sand, buff, polish, ultrafinna

After all that we will reassemble the car and drive this thing. Hopefully by Monday night we will be fully finished.
