We have those down here IIRC... We have brown wood spiders as well wich really suck. They get pretty large and ever since I had a 4 - 5" one (legs spread completely out) jump out from the corner of the shower, only to barely miss my manhood by a cpl of inches and land in the toilet (6 feet + total jump), I have had a healthy fear of them.

We do have tons of black widows though.. I used to be kinda scared of them, but now they are just there, and I try to kill them whenever possible. Scariest thing with those though was under my 240. I looked under there one day to check on the condition of my rear sway bar d bracket bushings. I look up to see a black widow wrapping up a 4" long blue tounged skink she killed and PULLED UP to my lower controll arm!!! I used to have a picture of it as it was one of the craziest things I had ever seen, but unfortunately my hd containing the image is on the shelf awaiting rma return :( FWIW theres another web in the same spot right now hehe.

I took many pictures of a banana spider named fred and fed him as well for a few days till he left. Kinda funny as I hate spiders, but he was cool.

I agree on a few points.1st. Yes I aggree, it deffinatly looks like a brown reculse2nd. We also have em here in FL now. Found one where I work, and another in my house.3rd. I ****in hate spiders, I kill everyone I see. 4th. We have these huge suckers called bannana spiders. You can hear the damn things hiss. As a kid me and frineds would be riding bikes through the woods. And even though the spiders are huge, and they spin these wacked out looking yellow webs with weird white designs in the middle. You can't see them thill they are like 6 inches in front of your face. And you have to dump your bike to keep from hiting them. We used to go throught he woods shooting them with our BB guns. And if you didnt kill em, thats when the hissing comes into play.

So my point is, spiders are the work of the anti-christ, kill everyone you see.Ryan

Actually, those arent banana spiders. Those are garden spiders. hey're actually good cause they eat all kinds of bugs. Banana spiders are from south amaerica, and they live in banana bundles and they can kill you with a bite. mean little bugs, and they are brown.

In Saudi there were these friggin Camel spiders....really nasty huge spiders. Like hand size big. They run at you with the front legs up and jump all over the place.

We have Banana spiders over here in Asia, cept there huge and yellow striped. Big nasty yellow webs....Probably just got named banana do to the color.

Actually they are both "banana spiders", as the same common names can and are given to various types of insects, and other things.

While one is called Banana for its color and shape, and the other because it hides in bundles of bananas, they are both known as that :)

The Argiope aurantia is also known as the Banana Spider, Yellow Garden Spider, Black-And-Yellow Argiope, Golden Orb Weaver, Yellow Argiope, Writing Spider, and Golden Garden Spider, hehe from what I have researched just now :) Also while they are poisonous, they are less poisonous then a widow and while It may hurt is rather harmless and goes away in 24 hrs or so. Another thing is they seldom bite, unless say smacked prodded or whatever and will generally try to get off of you / escape, vs bite :)

But I will say that every image Ive seen of them hasnt been as pretty as my friend fred (which was a female.. doh).... Damn HD crash lost all my digital photos over a week of him / her, and Im too broke to have my 35mm film processed.

The other, Phoneutria fera, is also known as the Banana spider, Brazilian Wandering spider, Wandering Spider, and South American Wandering Spider... Um these are nasty lil (or large) things and are one of the most deadly in the world... They also dont build huge elaborate nests like the previous spider though.

Not like anyone cares, but if you did there you go... I got bored anyway and it was cool to learn...
