you wanna know what it'll cost? I am assuming your insurance doesn't cover it otherwise you wouldn't be asking. the last time I had to have a windshield replaced it costed me around 200 bucks. you can sometimes get it done cheaper if you find a windshield from a junkyard (usually they will have them removed already if they are gonna sell it to you) I have no idea how it is actually replaced.

well yeah insurance asks for a 500 dollar deductable, BULL****!! hehe but i want to know how professionally done it should be, like are they just gonna break it off and pull out galls, what do they have to remove to put the new on ein, etc.

I hope you don't have the HUD. The winshield for it is 3 times as expensive. Fortunately my glass deductable is only $100 Canadian.

Heads Up Display. it reflects the speed off the windshield. you'd know if you had it. It should be professionally done cuz they have to use prolly some kind of solvent to dissolve the glue from the broken windshield and then glue the new one on. if it aint done right you'll have lots of problems in the future i.e. leaks, more cracks, and the actual structrural integrity of the car will be comprimised.

OMG, $1,000 for a windshield? And you say that's the cheapest too? Damn, that small crack on my windshield doesn't bother me as much as it use to now.

I'd just call them and tell them you have a crack in your windshield and need to get it replaced. don't say anything about when it happened, they prolly won't ask too many questions about it. also just so you know, in my state, MN, it is illegal to drive with a cracked windshield if it passes thru the driver's line of sight. don't know about other states, but something to think about.

seriously, they get claims like this all the time. I don't think they are going to care. If you realy need to have a backup excuse just tell them you were driving behind a big semi with construction equipment on it when all of the sudden a huge bolt or rock or something fell off the back of it and hit your windshield. that actually happened to me once, it scared the crap outta me. The funny thing was I could see it happen in slow motion; the bolt fell off, bounced once off the pavement and BAM! the only thing was it didn't crack my windshield, but it could have.
