After 13 years and 228K miles, the hinges on both mirror covers are literally starting to crumble and fail- guess the plastic has become old and brittle{like me!} I see others have had the same problem,and that I.O.S. at one time offered replacement parts to cure the issue{ no longer listed on website, but I will call to see if still available,and price}

My question, to those of you who have replaced yours is how did the new ones hold up? My concern is even the "new" parts were probably manufactured 10 years ago and have been slowly degrading/becoming brittle just sitting in some warehouse???? Sure would hate to invest in new parts if they wont be a long term solution.

I replaced my driver's side in one car two years ago. New one was in fine shape. Not much heat in warehouses. About $57 then.

Might want to save the soldered in bulbs.

I saw this at a junk yard and proceeded to fix my mirrors: Remove the metal pins from the hinges, if they have not already fallen out. Take a 1/8" drill bit and drill all the way through the plastic on both the flap and the mirror side of the hinge. Then remove the bit from the drill and use it as the new hinge pin. It takes advantage of the entire length of the hinge plastic instead of the short depth of the oem pins which break after time.
