I Have a 1989 240sx Hatchback i bought a year ago and it never really ran great. It has the stock KA24E motor on a 5 speed manual transmission. The timing had gotten so far off that the piston hit one ofe my exaust valves and broke it. Now i have the head off and i'm just looking for some opinions on what to do now. Should i upgrade go back to stock or just get a new motor? I have little money alot of time and i want to eventually go high performance. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

I would take the head to a machine shop and have them check out the valve guides. Chances are if you bent a valve, the guide is damaged too. Getting the serface machined, new guides installed, and new valve seats installed isn't all that much. If your looking for more power you could get the head ported and polished. Also the combustion chamber can be polished too. YOu might want to rebuild the block too. I bet the piston that hit the valve is damaged too. Depending on how bad the cylinder walls are you might get away with just honning out the cylinder. Get the crank ballanced and polished. When you rebuild, put the front cover on, followed by the head, then the oil pan.
