At least 2 of my valve cover bolts are broken. I was considering drilling out the holes and just using regular hardware bolts together with some sort of silicon/rubber washers. What do you think?

on a KADE? I'd suggest bolt out products. Reverse thread bits do the trick. Punch the middle as close as you can to perfect dead center, then dig in and watch it come out. Good luck.

OOPS!! No, it's an SR20DET! (If that even makes a difference here...)

"Bolt out" products being some sort of "product" that can get your bolts out, correct? (I don't like making assumptions ;) )

One more thing, I need a new Valve Cover Gasket. I've been searching around and the only part number I can get is for an OEM Nissan Part. 13270-52F00

Anyone know where I can get an aftermarket part for this? Or.. at least have a part number from an aftermarket manufacturer?

EDIT:
I took the "DET" off my Google 'shopping' search and found listings for Nissan Sentra SE (SR20DE), Infiniti G20 (SR20DE), 200SX (SR20DE)...

The pics for all of them look identical to the one I need, but mine is has turbo. I would like to assume the turbo doesn't matter in this case... Can someone confirm any of those will work? Here's an example:
http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q= ... t&start=10

I think I managed to figure this out myself... The SR20DE is not the same as the DET as it is naturally aspirated and the seal does look different...

I managed to find a cheap gasket here: http://www.nissan-auto-parts-dealer.com/

Pffft... turns out that site wanted $10.50 for shipping bringing the total over $23... I can get an OEM part direct from my local Nissan dealer for $22.13... Guess I gotta bite the bullet on this one and wait for my dealer to get the part in (they said 3 days...)

It will be worth it to go oem, and yes these products help remove broken bolts.
I'm experienced with the KA so was using my own experience for reference, but truthfully the SR should be the same. Indeed you may be able to get away with a sr20de gasket, but if according to the FSM the part number is different, then the material or shape will be different intentionally.

For sure. Any luck with the valve cover bolts?

I bought a Titan Reverse Drill out bolt and screw removal kit. Used it for 2 seconds and it broke... Didn't even scratch the bolts...

So I ended up drilling them out the old-fashioned way, but I managed to preserve my threads!

So now... where can I get some new valve cover bolts? Can I just use a standard bolt that will thread in and just make sure it sits tight?

As for the gasket... It arrived and I got it installed rather easily and even with a couple broken valve cover bolts, it's not leaking any more!

Here is where you can get them individually. Now, ebay has some but you gotta buy the whole set up and I think they run about 14 for em all where as you only need a couple, order em from this dude instead. Good luck.

Your dealership should have the bolts too. Don't think you're the first person to break one of these bolts or drop one into the engine bay...

My dealer is an idiot... He says he doesn't have them, but I doubt he even looked... So it's an SR20DET... That means he can't even try? Pffft...

Thanks for the link djidentity!!

Welcome... ya most dealers are idiots especially when it comes to after market upgrades. Some are ok... but I dont see many. I usually get good resources here, and from friends.

Nice work getting them out man! Feels good to undo something you messed up doesn't it? haha. I remember the first time I needed to do that, I didn't even know it was an option and thought I ruined one of my toyota motors. I was so relieved afterwards. Although thats insane that you broke a bit made for it. Def return that ish. I also just LOVE calling the dealers for just about ANYTHING. They always have kids my age working in parts that live with a chip on their shoulder. But truly, whatever, you know? They can live their lives like that, not me tho. Sometimes when I'm pissed I like to f with them, but I digress. props!

Quick question... what if I used standard hardware bolts and a rubber washer sandwiched between 2 normal washers? I got some that fit and it looks like it will work perfectly, but I'd like to get your thoughts on it since not only is my dealer an idiot, but my ex-mechanic is also a moron... LOL!!

Hard to say without seeing it... as long as the threads are correct, it might be OK. I would just order them from the dealer or a place like www.everythingnissan.com though.
