broken vacuum part

Need some help with my r50, has a broken leg on a solenoid thingo, but car seems to run fine.

Its been this way since i had it and the receiving end(vacuum hose) has a screw inserted

ps. i tool the plug off for the photo

the reason i saw this in the 1st place is i was looking for the reason my heater wont heat up but thats another story

Looks like evap control selenoid. Periodically the ecu will tell that to open which allows gas vapors to be sucked from the canister into the intake.

Kudos to the previous owner for figuring out how to hide that from the ecu as you should be seeing a CEL.

That is the evap control selenoid and what is happening i believe is the fuel vapor gasses are released into the engine compartment, probably not a good thing. What the ecu is reading is if the selonoid is opening and closing, so it doesn't monitor the gasses coming out of the selonoid going into the combustion chamber.

i should just leave well enough alone but anyway...

Do you think this might be to do with the light not working, supposedly to illuminate my odometer reading? I thought it strange i could only see it during the day time

I wouldn't want gas fumes under my hood on a hot summer day.

About the light I remember half of mine weren't illuminated and I ran my dimmer switch back and forth, works now. So my guess is the dimmer switch.
