Driving down the road and I started hearing some noise. My lady ask me what is that noise, I said its probably road noise. Then the noise got worse. I thought it was a flat so I pulled to the side immediately. I got out to check the tires but they were ok. I removed the LF center cap and 4 broken studs fell to the ground.
I sent her home in the taxi. The taxi was $52 and it wasn't that far. The tow truck would be $150 if I decide to tow it.
Coincidentally a mechanic shop was two business down from where I pull to the side. I was debating tow it or fix it here. I figure it would be definitely be cheaper to change the studs here.
Only time I take my car to the shop is for inspection. I do or try to do all my mechanic work myself since I am a mechanic. I help him take it apart and put it back together. The entire job was around 20-25 mins. The longest part was waiting a hour for the studs. He charged me $150 which I think was way too much. I still plan to change them all for longer and stronger studs.

I had a bunch of studs break off on me while I was driving on the freeway. Almost lost a wheel going 85 mph. The reason it happened was because America's Tire didnt tighten down the lug nuts enough and they came loose a bit. This caused a lot of stress on the studs because the wheel was able to move slightly and cause very uneven force on the studs. I felt things get a bit weird in the steering wheel on my way out on a trip, then during the trip under hard acceleration I felt something definitely wrong but it seemed like one of the wheels was just really out of balance. I was on a trip and couldnt do much about the problem at the time so I decided to just go easy on the car. Unfortunately on the way home I almost lost the wheel in the middle of nowhere in the desert when it was 132 degrees outside. Now I always watch my wheels getting put on, make the mechanic use a real torque wrench, and check his settings before the mechanic even starting using the wrench. Their stupidity quite literally could have killed me.

I bought 10 inchiba extended studs from ebay. I started with 10 for the front because I was not too sure about the size. I will buy a next equivalent set for the rear.
