broken stud

ok i was driving home from work and all of a sudden my exhuast gets really loud i pop the hood and notice that 4 manifold bolts where loose so i try and tigthen them and they just broke off completly how would i get the studs out without doing damage to the head

you need screw extractors. hardware stores will have them.

Bolt outs work well for this. Did they break flush with the head? Sometimes if enough of the stud is sticking out, you can grab it with some vice grips.

Remember to spray penetrating oil on it.

Before using the easy out stuff, make sure to drill a small hole into the fastner as close to the center as possible. The surface may be unever from when it snapped off the head. Get a punch or something to get the drill bit seated.
