Broken part on my car?

Okay so I was under my car today polishing my pipes and I see this thing hanging down. :wtf2:

Honestly I have no idea. Maybe a few of the guys with the ED rear bumper could help out since they have had their bumpers off before. Ill try and take a look tomorrow at mine before I go to work.

The only thing I can possibly think of is that it was/is part of a connection for a tow hitch. Is the electrical cable attached to a sensor or does it kind of just plug into a "dock" to hold it?

I have no idea if i can plug it into anything. I cant follow the cable very far

Not where you follow it to,where it terminates on the metal block that is hanging. Is there another connection or plug on the backside of the metal block? Or does it just plug into that metal piece and thats it?

it just plugs into it and thats it

Might be the proximity sensor for the trunk release switch. So the car knows your ikey is by the trunk when you try to open it.
