This has probably been asked and answered but I did a search and didn't see it. I'm new to the board. I have a 1998 Pathfinder and I have a broken stud on a left front lug. I would normally hammer it out and replace it, but it looks like there is a plate behind it that won't let it clear once it's out. How can I replace this?

Thanks in advance.

There should be a small section or notch in the dust shield behind the hub that doesn't have any clearance issues. If that is the case, you will have to rotate the hub to find that spot. If not, make a notch in the dust shield. You need a location wide enough to drive the stud backwards, remove and then replace it. Line up the stud with the notch.

Yes I thought of that, but it seemed that the back plate rotated with the wheel also, not allowing for me to try to rotate it to a slot. I'll check again. The metal is thick, so cutting a slot seems like a last resort. I have the kind of wheels that you have to take apart it seems to get the rotors off.
