After getting home I reached in my pocket to unlock the door, I grabbed the key but the keyless entry was still in my pocket. First time this has happened. Can a local locksmith replace this? Infiniti dealer is over an hour away and wasn’t happy with them after the last recall repair. It’s a 2006 M35X.

Looks fixable to me. Adhesive appears to have given way. This should be an easy fix for a locksmith.

Talked to a local locksmith. He said that he couldn’t fix it but he could cut a key.

Now that I look closer at your picture, it does look like the metal bit broke off the key. If the locksmith has a replacement key they can cut for you, then you're all set. Amazon.com has these replacement key blanks for that specific key fob so your locksmith may as well.

Would the dealer need to program it?

Not if the transponder is in the key fob body. I'm not positive about that, with this fob, but it is similar to the one I have for my Kia Soul, which has a removable key with no transponder in it. However, if the transponder is in the key (the black part that had that piece break off from) and a new one needs to be purchased, then it would have to be programmed. The good news is, you can do it yourself without any dealership or service center help. Here are the instructions on how to do it but I don't think you will need to do that. https://northcoastkeyless.com/2004-niss ... tructions/

The only Nissan I-keys I know about which have RFID in the hardkey are the old Rogues and Armadas with twist ignition cylinders. If the car has a Start button then the hardkey should be a dumb type.
