Hello,

I have a 1986 300ZX. My lock on my glove-box latch broke in the locked position.

The key does not help.

Anyone have any ideas how to open the box?

If you could post pictures of the latch from the inside that may help since I may be able to slide a small screwdriver in there to trip the latch. The picture would help me know what I am trying to trip.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Robert

Did you get your glove box open? I have the same problem. The key "turns" the lock but nothing happens. Don't know how to open without damaging the box or latch itself.

brute force. you might just have to accept that something might get broken. I've had this issue with a couple of cars, , if you cant jam a screwdriver in it and force it to turn you might be able to pry down enough that it pops open. If you want the lest amount of destruction you can drill out the cylinder, it's a bit tedious but you limit the damage.

Right. I was thinking the same thing. Drill out and look for a replacement mechanism. It's the only part of the car that does not work, so I'm grateful for that.

That'll be a project for the next winter. Thanks for the reply.

Wow memory lane, I broke mine YEARs ago when colored Nissan Plastic was easy to aquire for a price. I had to take a new key as they couldn't match that, but I just wanted to latch the darn thing.

There is a great website and I am sure you can get a replacement for it

http://www.300zxpartsforyou.com/

this dude has everything in color matching. I never EVER locked that darn thing again and learned the hard way to be VERY gentle wiht expensive (and now very hard to find) nissan plastic.
