broken gas release latch

went to fill up today and couldn't get the gas hatch open.had to break out a screw driver and pop that sonabitch anyone know what the problem might be??

oh my old 240 whenever i would press the lever nothing would happen. theres a a little metal piece thats supposed to act like a spring. when you close it it compresses the metal a bit... when you press the release then the tension in the metal piece pushes the fuel door open.

try this. get a friend or something. tell yoru friend to hold the lever or something. go to the back and see if the fuel door opens freely, get the screwdriver and dig in there to open. tell me what happens
