I have a metal fuel line that has a crack in it. i was wondering if i can cut it off and put a rubber line in place of the metal up to the rail without a bead on the line?

Probably not.

I'd pull it off and go have it brazed (or just replace that portion of the line with one from a junkyard).

cut the section with the crack in it off of the line with a tubing cutter (the kind with the sharp wheel that you turn around the tube) get yourself a piece of metal fuel line from the auto parts store and some compression unions, and put it all together

That's a lot of work for a $5 part.

Agreed and working with lines like that for a first timer is quite difficult. Do as AZ suggested and get one from a junkyard just make sure there aren't any cracks in that one.

Or cut the a section of the line out, slide EFI hose over it and clamp.
