Broken flex pipe/exhaust upgrade

Hey guys,
The flex pipe in my exhaust broke and the mechanic said I may have to have the whole thing replaced. Forgive me for having no knowledge about this, but does this mean they would replace the whole exhaust pipe and muffler? If I wanted to change my exhaust to make it louder, would this be the time to do it? Thanks for any information you can give me.

It would def be the time to do it since you're forced to anyways. Look up stillen/Borla/Greddy/Top Speed
