Ok so on my way home about 30 minutes ago my Versa just decided to break down.

I pulled up to a stop light and it started to shake and than it just died.I tried to start it but it wouldn't start back up.

It gets SOOO close to starting, I have no clue about engines or anything like that but we towed my Versa home with our other car and are getting it towed to Nissan in the morning to have them look at it.

Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be? I tried using the search button but I was unable to find anything related to this. The lady at Nissan was surprised; she said that she has never heard of this happening before. Thank god I'm still under warranty. Only got like 4k miles left though...

Anyways any suggestions would be great thank you. Also does anyone know if Nissan gives you rental cars when yours is in the shop? I have work tomorrow and don't have access to another vehicle.

If you have the extended warranty yes they will give you a rental if you don't then you might have an issue.

As for the engine just dieing, the only time I came close to it trying to stall was when I got fuel that contained to much ethanol. My car would just shake at idle, once I got regular gas with no ethanol in the tank problem when away.

One quick question how did you tow it home? The reason I ask is if you flat towed the Versa with the CVT you may have done serious damage to the transmission.

I hooked the the tow hook into the bumper and we did flat tow it in Neutral with the key "on". I was SUPER close to my home so we only had to pull it less than a block at a very low speed.

I do not have the Extended Warranty, so of course they won't help me. When I called Nissan they seemed to be clueless about everything.

I am having a tow truck come by in the morning and they are gonna take it to our Nissan and we are gonna ride behind and see what we can get done. My car is still under its original manufacturers warranty so I hope that I don't run into some trouble.

do you have an intake? did it come disconnected.

I would look for anything that may have popped off or disconnected.

Run the codes...what comes up? if it died you should have a CEL.

If not start with the fuel pressure to make sure you have line pressure... wait no tools

Guessing something with fuel. Maybe the pump died or something.

So you're saying the CVT is not designed to run in Neutral gear much at all? I don't see why they would design that into the car's transmission and not have it function safely. Or am I missing some important detail? I've coasted my Altima 3.5 down a hill going 70 mph on the highway for a good half mile in Neutral a few times. Should I be worried about things falling apart?

It is probably ok to coast - because the transmission is still being properly lubricated and cooled.

But it is a bad bad bad idea to flat tow. Just read this TSB. http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Ro...e.pdf

Well my Versa was fixed within 2 hours and it was all free (minus the towing).

Apparently when the stereo shop installed my LED underkit they screwed into a wireharness and it ended up blowing the fuel pump fuse. How stupid.. I don't understand why I didn't check the fuses before I took it down there. I feel like an idiot for that, but I just thought I'd let you guys know it's all good now!

I flat towed my Versa for about a block and it caused no damage thank god. I wasn't aware that flat towing was bad until last night after we did it.

Glad it was just a fuse. And you towed it in neutral for a very short distance so there should be no problem with that. If it was in drive, that could do worse. It's like turning an engine crank without the oil pump going.

Yes towing in neutral on any Auto transmission for longer distances will ruin the transmission, but that block wouldn't hurt.
