so yesterday my car died because the tail lights were on. my step dad checked it out and it was a rubber stopper thing on the brake pedal that turned the lights on and off when i pressed the brake pedal.

i was wondering if there is any way i could get a new rubber stopper or would there be an easier way to fix it? because its in a pretty tough spot. any help would be greatly appreciated!

You could order the stopper from Nissan (Uhhhhhhh no s***) Or just put a bolt and a nut in there for the same effect, thats what I have on my clutch switch. Nissan part# 46584-s0100 (s14)46512-H0101 (S13)

Glue a dime over the hole. I have been driving with no tail lights for at least 3 months. It's totally safe bro.

I second that dime thing but I sandwiched two pennies on top of each other and used some JB Weld to hold them all together. I've just had that happen about 2 or 3 weeks ago and it's working perfectly

exact same thing happened to me the other week. just get a bolt, and 2 nuts.. one nut for each side of the bolt, when you put it through the whole right by above the brakelight switch.. then just screw the bolts whichever way so you can adjust is easily and get ur brakel lights working the best.

What size bolt would I need?

Well the shaft of the bolt would have to be small enough to fit through the hole and the head of the bolt would have to be big enough to rest on the sensor side of the hole to push the sensor. Get a nut and washer that would correspond with said bolt and install. Look under the dash and find the hole thats missing the grommet, and eye it up. This is really really simple, and my suggestion right under yours was to put a nut and bolt in there, why didnt you ask then?? Also, two forty there said to put a nut on either side as to adjust the bolt, not ness. The sensor can be adjusted to the pedal, just install the bolt and your good to go. The grommet was just flat, so, no adjustment needed.

Page 6 of 46 is an illustration on the switch. You can one from other Nissans of the same era. Its a 2 wire plug, a switch with a threaded top, and a lock nut. Take all of 5 minutes to replace. 40 min if your fat like me and need to take out the seat.

I believe his switch is fine, just that the grommet that pushes the switch is missing.

Order one from FRsport like I did. The new stopper seems to be made of more durable material than the old one. Maybe its just me but I don't like to rig things. As for installing it: You'll have to snake your way under the dash. Have someone push the brake pedal down while you slip the stopper in. I went through this a couple of weeks ago. I know how frustrating it is.

don't mind the late bump...

but this was the first thread on Google that popped up when I did a search... because my brake lights wont turn off now, after my brother mentioned he noticed my tail lights still turned on..

it just dawn on me that when I was driving earlier this afternoon, i felt this rubber ball looking thing under my right foot rolling around. while driving, i managed to reach under and grab it. I was like, "wtf is this?" and I threw it out my window. FML I had no clue what it was

The best, most durable replacement I have found so far is one of those wide, flat fender-liner/ mudguard screws with one of those metal mounting clips that come with aftermarket speakers on the backside. Works great and will probably never fail again.
