For the past year or so, the heater/AC fan switch on my '93 Sentra SE would get stuck in 4th position, so I never used it. Well a month ago, my wife forgot and switched it on max-high. I couldn't get it out of that position, so with all my might, I managed to break it free and get it "unstuck".

Unfortunately, now position "O" (off) is the same as "2" (medium) and position "1" is now "3" (high). Positions "2", "3" and "4" do nothing (now it goes in and out of 4th position without any problem). And my AC light won't come on (not that I need it in this 30-degree weather here in northeastern PA). I really messed it up.

Is this an easy problem to fix? Do I just need a new switch? Will my AC button work again once I fix the fan switch?

Thanks,-Tom in Scranton, PA

You should be able to pull off your center console and get to the unit where the gears are housed for the A/C switches. (pos 1 - 4) Take a look at those and see where the problem lies. One of the plastic pieces probably broke off. A replacement plastic gear can't be that much I wouldn't think.
