Using a 1/2" drive on the cooling system bleeder screw was a bad idea, since it is now headless and missing about the first 1/4" of threads. I've been looking at screw extractors but I'm worried that most of them are too wide to fit the hole at 1/4" depth. Any recommendations? (Other than telling me to use a smaller drive, I'm already aware of that )

dude, it is so easy, its a 10mm, just take one with you everywhere, there are alot of 10mmon 240's...

well, i overtightned mine and broke the top off, my friends dads owns a bmw repair shop and extracted it no problem, took him maybe 10 minutes then just found a random screw that now i have to use a allen wrench to use. whatever.

its no biggie to extract it, i would take it to a shop though if you dont know what your doing, or else it could turn into a hassle later.

good luck!matt

Yeah its the best bet to have a shop do it unless you are absolutely sure what you are doing (isnt that true with all things car related).

You will have to have her towed i guess, unless its a quick trip to a shop.

Home Depot carries a very small extractor, and that worked like a charm. A little tip, wrap some tape around your drill bit so you don't run too deep when drilling the pilot hole for the extractor.
