Hey, does anyone have an idea how to get a busted bolt out of a hole, say in an alternator thread? I heard my belt squeeking when I was driving to my g/f to work, I popped the hood in the parking lot and the damn bolt that goes through the tensioner (if that makes sense) had broke off. Almost got the alt. out but still wondering how I'm gonna get that treaded piece of bolt out? I thought maybe a drill, that would turn the threaded piece out with friciton? Any ideas?

Thanks...

You may be able to just spin the piece of bolt out with your finger tip.

I had a few broken bolts in an engine block once. I was so pissed cause i thought i was going to have to drill them out. I got lucky and they spun out real easy.

haha..mine did the same thing last summer in myrtle beach (ON THE STRIP) in front of everyone. we went to home depot and got another bolt that fit with the same threads. we started screwing the new bolt in and the broken off piece threaded right out with the new one coming in...try it. it could work, or maybe it won't. it worked for me. lata.~Scott

2 ways to do it if you can't with your finger...

bolt removal kit from sears... First drill, then use the reverse tap and unscrew it out.

Low heat level welder, weld on a knub onto the end of the bolt, and then use vise grips to clamp onto it and unscrew it... Remember to use LOW Voltage or else the heat can damage the braket.

Hey, I got it out but it was a pain in the ***, a little dowel was pushed in where the alt. pivots, but when i got the alt out the little piece of thread just kind of spun it's self out. I used a dremel with a drill and a grinding tool. But there was no way to get at it with my fingers. Thanks everybody!!!
