My wife was coming home the other day and her '91 started to run hot, she pulled off the road and shut it down. After a time she tried to restart it and it would not start. had it towed home and the tow truck driver said that it sounded like a timing chain, and to me it sounds like a chain too, a whinie free wheeling sound. I took off the dizzy cap and it turns and I'm thinking that with a busted chain it would not turn. We had a new chain and head gasket done just 2 yrs. ago. Any clues anyone? Also what would be a decent priced scanner. Man I'm dumb as dirt when it comes to electronics.Any and all help and greatly appreicated.smitty

ah, u got OBD I; I don't think there's a ready-to-use scanners in the aftermarket to plug into the Consult port

you'll haveta pull the pass side kick panel, unbolt the ECU & rotate it 180 degrees, then fiddle w/ the screw to access the trouble codes... search in articles or http://www.240sx.org for the process & listings...

have u checked the condition of the oil yet? if it looks like chocolate milkshake instead of brown/amber oil... bye bye head gasket

i think you can go to autozone and use the computar dianostics to check the ecu.

i think it's free.
