yep, it broke.car's down until parts can get here Tuesday.

Had a little run in with a black single turbo supra on the freeway tonight. Little roll action went great. We both pulled in to a gas station to talk and decided to do a 0-160 run. Well we pull out onto the freeway and stop (Hazards on mind you) he honks and we both launch. right away I catch traction and take off as he follows closely behind spinning and trying to get into boost. I hit the nitrous and jump about 9 out on him as he gets into boost and tries to pull back. He manages to real me in to about 2 cars out, but I'm holding him off as I shift into 4th at 120. At 150 I start noticing a vibration from under my feet. I hit 160 with his front tires at my door, and let out.

Immediately after letting off the gas I hear POP! And the motor shuts off. I get it re-started and nurse it in to the next gas station with him following close behind.

Well, the intake manifold cracked from a nitrous backfire, the throttlebody blades are screwed, the cold air piping is blown off, and my filter disappeard somewhere behind us on the freeway. Nitrous backfire in the intake. BAD.

Well, I guess I'll order parts in the morning.

What??? You mean your realtime laptop engine monitor didnt tell you that you were going to crack your intake manifold from the nitrous?? That's ridiculous, well at least the rivets on your passenger side floorboard didnt blow and send the darn thing flying!

man, my roommates and I are busting up because of that, we just watched F&F so my friend could see true ricer mentality for the first time. He especially loved the part about blowing the welds on the intake manifold... didn't think it was possible, lol!

Anyway, despite the hilarity of it caused by a stupid movie, I am sorry to hear about the car Aries! At least you were winning when it blew, best to go out on top! I'm sure you'll have that beast running again in no time...

LMAO

Welds don't exist on these manifolds. They're cast. The damn thin cracked along the runner to #8 at the rear.Where it always leans out. :(

I have to hand it to the supra... going from 9 cars, to 1 car length on something as your car, takes balls...

Aries: I am considering a 240 for a daily driver/project car, and I am a bit of a highway racer at heart myself. I am worried about blowing the motor doing a top speed run, or a situation like you were just in. Would it have happened if you did not use nitrous? (would you have won, btw?)Everyone says to make sure you are tuned to be able to make those kinds of runs. You work for lime creek, right? Were you tuned for this type of action? and what kind of manifold do you have? I am still doing highway runs in my eclipse, and no problems so far...

he's running a Chevy LT1 V-8...not a KA24DE

also, i'll be damned if you ever get to 160 in a KA24 w/o some huge upgrading....mind you that includes forced induction...

hey aires what that Chris that you were racing? Skinny white bald guy? He came over here to CS one time to mess with the local mofos and whipped up on them pretty good...

Oh wait a minute, I remembered you are from houston and not austin. You should make the trip up here to CS and dink with the local domestic guys on wednesday nights. There is a guy here that has a T76 LT-1 383 Stroker that could give you a run for your money...

In all honesty I was expecting a problem like this a lot sooner :) It's not really a big deal, I have another intake, I just have to wait on the throttle body blades.

Car will be back on the road again Tuesday when my Summit shipment gets here.

The only wing that will ever make an appearance on my car is a drag spoiler. 2.25 feet of sheet aluminum with a 1.7° angle ;)

with LEDs and plenty of decals!

Congrats on the kill. maybe i should buy some stuff from you to help you buy more stuff for the car.:D

i know you put in a LT1, but does anyone know if they one guy got the VH45 installed. Also, would a VG30DE fit with enough room to provide sufficient cooling to help with its overheating problems. just want to look at my future options when i do an engine swap.
