Just finished changing my spark plugs, well 5 of them. When working on the #1 cylinder (passenger side front) which looks different than all the others. The dam thing pulled apart on me when I was pulling it out of the motor to get access to the plug itself. This is a VQ35de 01 QX4

The coil on the right

Came apart like this, showing the bottom of the plug I pulled out, and whats remaining inside my engine on the right

Heres a pic of the coil

I dunno if I did it wrong, but I just unbolted it, and gave it a tug to pull the rubber out of the hole, and it came apart like that.....

This coil looks different than the rest, so I dunno exactly what I have to purchase. My car seems to be running lumpy, probly on 5 cylinders (I tried to reassemble and put the coil back in.. Heres all the numbers I was able to pull off of the coil.

-Hanshin MCP-2840-22448 4W001+ G IB

Any help? I was also unsuccessfull trying to pull the broken part out of the engine, dont know how Im going to exactly do that....

THanks guys

I found this product based on the 22448 4w001 code I had, looks to be just the rubber that is stuck in my motor, does that mean Im not screwed for big cashs ince its only $10 and I can just atach it to my coil, extract the broken... and be on my way.....

those boots do come apart. you should be able to take them out. if the spring itself is stuck on the plug, try getting a piece of wire hanger or something to yank out the spring that should be attached to the coil itself.

umm yeah the spring was definetely still inside the rubber boot thats down there, never touched it or anything. So how exactly am I supposed to get the whole rubber piece out? Its STUCK, I tried pulling on it with 2 pair of needle nose, and it just ripped some of the rubber surround off...

It's just the rubber boot that's stuck on the plug. You should be able to get a set of long needle nose pliers in there to grip it. Give it a twist as you give slow and steady pressure and you should be ok.

lol, here i am thinkin Im an idiot

Ok, so can I simply buy a new bottom piece for that specific coil based on the part number I have, somehow remove the old broken piece (I need an idea)

When I buy this new piece, does it simply attach to the bottom knub of the coil I have posted here, does it just push on??

Well I apprecaite the offer, but Im in a different country lol. Im just looking for clarification, that I can simply buy the rubber piece that is broken off the coil (the part that I linked) and attach it to my coil. Does it just click onto the knub underneath of the coil?

Then find a way to remove the broken piece, and everything will be good again?

Or do I need to replace the entire coil itself? hopefully not

Thank you

The top can be twisted off from the extension, I have done it before.

I would suggest ordering from PartsGeek.com, since the have the manufacture dates listed for each coil, like my QX4 which I will order coils for next week, works with coils from 01-00-00 to 08-00-00

Where it broke off is where it disconnects, the extension (female) twists into the top part (male).

Hello. I strongest recommendation is to replace the whole coil assembly since the coil shaft integrity has been comprimised. Thank you.

Thats about $90 locally for just that #1 coil from 2001. Was hoping for a cheaper solution as people said the part that came undone is replacable anyways.
